It’s almost Carnival! Will you be celebrating? Where I grew up, Carnival was important. Important enough to be called the “5th Season”.  I still remember the fun of dressing up, going to all the festivities and getting to keep the costumes afterward to play “pretend” whenever we wanted to.

Here and today, Carnival is almost not celebrated at all. At least nowhere near to the way I was used to and I still miss it a lot. But our daughter had just as much fun playing at make-believe and dress up in every way possible, even without any official occasion. I guess it’s the same with all children, no matter where you live. I just wish I had had Silhouette Cameo then, it would have been a great time saver with all our crafts to make her costumes, lol.

With or without a cutting machine – a fun, fast and very adaptable (as well as affordable) way to play at pretend is creating simple masks. They are soooo versatile. A mask could turn your little guy into a superhero or a wild lion – or your sweet girl into a mysterious princess or a cute little bunny  (or the other way round, lol). Plus they are fun to decorate – even the little ones can use their markers or finger paint on them, older children might love to use glitter paints, feathers or sequins to create their masterpiece.

How about celebrating Carnival with a superhero-family dinner with everybody wearing their superhero masks? Have the kids decorate them while you cook – and don’t forget to mention that broccoli is the only known antidote for kryptonite, lol.

By now you can probably guess where this post is leading – yup, here’s  your freebie, a basic mask to turn you all into superheroes (who gets to be DigiScrap Woman?):

Oh, and you don’t need a cutting machine – the .png file is included, as well, so you can print it out and use the good, old scissor method to cut it out ;D

If you’re hooked now on crafting masks, here are some more options you might want to check out:

Have fun – and remember me if you’re going to celebrate Carnival!
