It is time for the wish lists to start showing up. Christmas is already in the stores. I don’t want to look….yet. The older we get, the harder it is to buy for our grandchildren. So much of what they have in their life is disposable. Temporary. I like gifts that keep on giving and I’m not talking about reloadable gift cards here. I like gifts made with love, even if you don’t have to break out a saw or drill or hammer.
One of my very first major scrapbooking endeavors was to make a scrapbook for my mom. Looking at that scrapbook now, there were lots of flaws but at the time she was like a little girl with HER book. She love to do road trips and visit her friends. She carried that scrapbook in her car and she pulled it out every chance she got. Some of her friends kindly and patiently allowed her to show it to them 3 or 4 times. As I was making her scrapbook I knew that I wanted to give her something she would cherish forever.
I knew she was showing it off but it wasn’t until her funeral when people were telling me how many times they has seen her book. It couldn’t have been more valuable if she had made it on the cover of Time. That would have been being in the right place at the right time, and getting very lucky. HER book was made with my own hands, my own memories, and as many photos as I could scavenge away from her under false pretenses.
If you DREAM of giving a gift that will never grow old, be disposed of, or traded for the next hot item that hits the market, then today is the day for you to start on this project.
Our own Manda (nibblesSKribbles) is on fire in the forum with a bunch of women who are on a mission. Their mission is to create such a book for someone in their family. One woman wants to have her book printed for each of her siblings and her mother too. Imagine 4 or 5 people hauling their gift around to show all of their friends. Imagine the stories and the laughter, the emotion connected to their books. Imagine you could complete an entire book in the next two weeks. Imagine you could win a prize to have it printed. If you can believe it, you can achieve it. Now is the time to join Manda and a room full of women who are getting it done right this minute. Now, Imagine handing over a gift that is totally, completely, 100% unique and original to you and the person the book is about.
Now stop daydreaming and get over to the forum! What are you waiting for? They’ve already started day 1 and day 2. But there is still plenty of time to join in and walk away with a completed project that will make the perfect gift for this holiday season.
Look at some of these layouts already completed.
