View Full Version : September Surprise Me! Border Challenge

08-31-2012, 10:08 PM
Sometimes when I create a layout, I want the photograph to be the only thing on the page, except perhaps for a date and/or very little text. Yet at the same time, I want some added interest. I have found that borders really come in handy when I find myself in this spot! However, sometimes a more traditional scrapbook page, featuring any number of photos, can be enhanced with the use of a border. These are the concepts that the Border Challenge is based upon. No what what type of scrapbook page you create, to participate in the Surprise Me! Border Challenge you must .... well... create a border. Each month different challenges will be offered to you........ Here is what I have in mind for September.

I like things to flow smoothly. I don't like it when they don't. 8D
If I have 8 photographs I would like to scrap and want a 2 page layout, I want those pages to be opposing pages, so I can see all 8 photos and the accompanying story all neatly laid out for me. I don't want to see page 1, and then have to turn the page to see page 2.

Your challenge this month is to make a 2 page (opposing page) layout, and it must contain a border.

Here is a gorgeous sample for you, created by msbrad:

This layout was based on a template in JenC Designs Double Trouble Template pack. Jen has graciously allowed me to offer a coupon to you for her templates!

Please use coupon code: 2off5jcd
Good for $2 off any purchase of $5 or more
Expires September 31st
Check out all of Jen's goodies in her store! (https://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=13_379)

The kit used in this layout is my newest kit, Leaving Room. You can find it in my store (http://tinyurl.com/snicker-studio), on sale for 40% off for the month of September, in case you would like to use it. It is NOT required. You may use any kit you like.

Please post your layout HERE (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/g1344-surprise-me-21-challenge.html) in the Surprise Me! Challenge Gallery by the last day of September. Then come back and post your layout here in this thread so we can see, with a quick glance, the amazing work you have done!

What do you earn by participating? Well, theStudio offers a 10% discount on ALL of your purchases for the following month. So, if you participate this month and get a layout posted (AND post a link here in this forum), you will receive 10% off of every purchase made next month! No coupons are required. The discount will automatically be applied to your purchase. How easy is that? And YES, this is on top of any sales prices too.

I hope you have fun and enjoy the challenge of creating a two-page spread, and customizing any templates you may use to incorporate a border!

Super challenge Karen and I am honored you've featured my double pager. Both the kit Leaving Room (https://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=13_372)as well as Jen C's template worked beautifully together. I have more photos... to scrap to complete our walk thru this park, so back to nature.

Double page layouts are difficult for me; however, hope that I can find the time to try it. The layout by MSBrad is lovely.

Great! Will be watching for your LO dare2bme71. (Glad to see you here!!)

Yes, scapper10. Jen's templates are amazing, and Michi always does fabulous work, doesn't she?? Thanks on the new siggy! ;) Looking forward to seeing your layout here!

You can do it makeyesups! I know you can! Just pick an event that you have multiple pictures for and make a wider page than the usual 12 X 12! Jen's templates (especially the Double Trouble ones) can be really helpful if you need some inspiration!

Jan, this is darling. I LOVE the journaling... it just took me back about 30 years to when my kids were that small! Adorable page, and love the delicate border you put around each page!

To all.......... I am going out of town tomorrow and will return late Tuesday evening. While away, I will have extremely limited Internet service, and very well may not be able to get back here until we get home! I will try to check in, but if you don't see me here, I wanted you to know why!

Ok I have a question.. I know there is an easy way to make a 2 page layout so everything lines up right.. BUT I can not for the life of me remember how it's done in PSE8 Can someone please help me? I sure would appreciate it.. ;-) Thanks

09-12-2012, 03:19 PM
Jan, your 2page layout is absolutely ADORABLE !!! ;-) Great job..

09-12-2012, 08:30 PM
Hi blue24k2000! Well, there may be some super way to do it, but I usually just create a canvas 7200x3600, then drag a guideline to the 3600 mark (right in the middle of the 7200 page). Just design my layout, and then save it in 2 parts. Does that make sense?

Cy Lynn.. what a neat border! I love that paper blocking on it... very different from others we've seen here! It's really nice to get even more border ideas!!!

Trickletime, very cute page, what you was fine! I like the way you divided up your title on both pages! Very unique!

Here's one of the double layouts I did for my 10 year anniversary... Credits: Wendy Tunison & Busy Crafting Mommy Lancelot and Guinevere. I've attempted to link the gallery, but this is bigger than the gallery - I'm sorry it ended up so big.

This is great NotAVampireLvr! I love the different ways that you used a border to tie your pages together!
That's a good idea, Amberpony.... I am wondering if everyone is getting tired of the Border Challenge... ?? Or ready to switch to something else for a month, say? I love borders... I like things all wrapped up neatly, and borders just seem to do that for me. But I don't want ya' all to get bored with this either! Thoughts?

09-22-2012, 03:21 AM
I love borders also. Glad to see your challenge. When I can focus I will be sure to play along. ;) I was just admiring all the samples you find each month.

I'm so glad you included the single pages here, jimmyrose, so we could get a close-up look here! I'm so sorry about the loss of Radar. It's so difficult to lose a special pet.
Your layout is very creative, and I love how you angled the papers to create that interesting design in the middle of the page. Beautifully done! Your border flower cluster ties everything together and is beautiful! Thank you for your participation!
