12-05-2012, 08:18 PM
December! Where has the time gone! December 5th, and here I am finally getting our December challenge set up! As I thought about what to do this month, I wondered what your favorite border challenges have been? Have you enjoyed Top Borders? Are Side Borders your favorite? What about the Bottom Borders?
Your challenge this month is to create a layout using YOUR favorite border technique.
* Create a layout with a border style of your choice - your favorite!
* You may use any kit; however, there must be a recognizable SEASONAL theme to your border. (Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall)
* Post your layout in the Surprise Me Border Challenge Gallery (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/g1344-surprise-me-21-challenge.html)
* Come back here and post your preview and a link to the Surprise Me Border Challenge Gallery in this thread. This makes it super simple for us to find your layouts in the gallery, and we thank you for taking this extra step!
What do you earn by participating? Well, theStudio offers a 10% discount on ALL of your purchases for the following month. So, if you participate this month and get a layout posted (AND post a link here in this forum), you will receive 10% off every purchase made next month! No coupons are required. The discount will automatically be applied to your purchase. How easy is that? And YES, this is on top of any sales prices too.
I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Can it be a border of Christmas???

Can it be a border of Christmas???
What more recognizable for winter than Christmas?:m May be snow, but it didn't have! Global warming worry all of us.
12-06-2012, 07:07 PM
Here's mine. I wanted the border soft and summery as we were together during the summer and the simpleness of the border portrays the layout.

Oh, Nancy, what a precious, precious photo. I love the scripture you used too. The border is lovely and perfectly fits this page. It accentuates the photo, and is lovely.
How beautiful, Kaye. What a lovely bride! And I really like how you incorporated the flowers into the LO that you also used on your border. Well done!
Felis, this is darling! I love how you used all of the elements to create a cookie-themed border! And your title is so perfect with your photo! Nicely done!
Hi, Glyss… Sure… We can include Christmas! Sure!
12-06-2012, 10:02 PM
Here is mine. I used a winter/Christmas theme.

Here's mine, with summer on its way :D

Here is mine. I like the looks of the 12 x 12 layouts. But I can't print those out myself. So I often shrink them down to fit my 8.5 x 11 size paper and then fill the top and bottom of those pages with layered papers and sometimes elements. I guess you could say that is my trademark on my layouts that I have in my albums. So I guess that's the borders I use the most and enjoy making.

Thanks for this challenge: I love it & will be back with a scrap LO with one of the new scrap kits I bought. Not often, however I'm in the mood for brights & well.......It seems like Summer/Fall here in Arizona right now.

Great layouts - I hope to come back soon with my border :((

Altimasport, what a beautiful Christmas border! And I love how you inset the photos too.. looks like we are looking thru a window! Such a cute banner/cluster as well! I love side borders, and this one is lovely!
ElkFan, This is lovely! So elegant! I love how the border so perfectly resembles the items in your photograph! And what a gorgeous Christmas table you have set here!!! Love the title work too!
What a darling page, soshanna. I love the unique way you treated your border, with the square cut-outs! That is wonderful! I also love how you took up the whole page with your photograph! I really like the offsets in your journaling too. Looks like a fun day.
You know, Jan, I started out making 8.5 x 11 layouts.. it was really even before 12 x 12 caught on. It was rare, at that time, to even find 12 x 12 albums in the store! But, of course, now it’s rare to find the 8.5 x 11 albums! Shrinking down 12 x 12 templates to 8.5 by 8.5 and then using borders is a great way to combine both worlds! Great layout! And a darling Christmas photo!
Hey, Jodie! What a darling picture! Sammi looks like she is having a blast! Very cute side border! The blues really pick up the blue in Sammi’s dress and the blue tinge on some of the leaves.
Hi Nandy! You may submit as many layouts as you wish, as far as I know. I don’t think there’s a rule on that. ?? LOL on Matilda!! Love those lips and eyes!!! The snowman border, with another cute face, is just perfect! Love the stitching on it too!
Hey Lella! I almost missed your entry! Hey everyone!!! Click on the "Thanks" which is highlighted in Lella's post!
LOL, Jill! I can think of way harder things than this for you to contemplate! You’re a tease. You could knock this out in a second!.....how about it?

Thank you for hosting Karen.

This is darling, Diane. I really like the side border you created, and how you hung the ornaments from the top border. Very nice way of using the glitter scatters too! Thanks for participating!

Being an Aussie in England there are a lot of 'different' experiences and for my daughter 'snow ' is one of them. She is lucky enought to be doing a 12 month exchange for university and making the most of her experiences
12-16-2012, 07:08 PM
Ok, so I'm on the fence about this Christmas pg, I can't decide if I like it better in pink or gold....
12-16-2012, 07:09 PM
ok, so maybe I like the gold better....but I like the idea of a pink girls Christmas pg...
12-18-2012, 08:51 AM
Hi Wendy, What a neat idea to use text as your border! I love all of the different phrases you used to do so! Great job.
Ahh... Nandy! I'm so glad you were inspired to do another one. This is darling! The photos are just PERFECT for this!! I love how you used the gingerbread dots for your photo borders too! And the baking scene you created with the kit elements is darling! Thanks for using Ginger Magic for this layout!
Miamm – what a great experience for your daughter! Lo love the snowy border you created! It perfectly sets the tone for this page!
Ccpat6…. I do think it’s a matter of personal preference – on the color… The faded pink definitely fits with the older, desaturated photo…but the gold also adds a different flavor to the layout… I’m honestly with you… I’m not sure.. I am leaning toward the gold one today. But ask me tomorrow and I might say the pink one. Seriously!

So wonderful pages here. It was hard for me to decide what´s my favorite, because I try to do something new everytime. But I think a little "spleen" of me is clustering somewhere around or near by the pictures... so I did this one as a xmas-greet for you all
In gallery HERE (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/member-galleries/p115302-merryxmas-greetings.html)!
Have a nice evening (or day whereever you are ;) ),

This is lovely, Melly! And I think it is a super neat idea for next month! A “border” in the middle of the page! Your layout is beautifully constructed, and the cluster is beautiful.
Beautiful border choices, Scrapper10. I like the juxtaposition of the curves with the straight borders! And the lace edging adds a lovely feminine touch.
This is gorgeous, TillM! And I’m so glad you joined us. Thank you! Your clustering is beautiful, and so perfectly coordinates with the BG paper you chose! Love the title work as well as the frame work. What a beautiful layout!
LOL, Tamie! Mr. Jangles is a hoot! Love the bathroom shot the best, I think. Although the one of him frying eggs is priceless too. A very fun page, indeed!
HI Barb, Oh, boy, does that look cold! But I love the border you created, with the tree, roads, and the present/lamppost cluster. Your title is adorable too!
This is lovely, Cathy. I love that you used Ginger Magic to help create this family memory. I really like the embossing you gve the ABC quote too! And the border is beautiful.. love that you used the sparkles over the icicles like that.
We’ve had a lot of different types of borders shown this month, and they are all really interesting and beautiful, don’t you think? Just goes to show how versatile borders are!

Here is mine:

I used an older Studio Mega Kit, Vintage Christmas.
I used the border to separate the pocket from the page.
01-02-2013, 08:23 AM
Ahh.. Karen.. what a sweet picture! Love the border you created, and how you have elements tucked within the curves!
Very nice, Cyndi, I love used stacked papers as borders. They really give depth to a piece! Great color choices!
Itsjanw – I really like how you used the cold flourishes to edge your border! They really look beautiful against the red.
And that's a wrap for December! Thanks, all, for submitting your layouts! I loved seeing them... head on over to January's challenges and see what is in store this month!
