Happy Groundhog Day!:((

For those of you who are not familiar with this celebration, here's a quote from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groundhog_Day#cite_note-folklore-1):

"Groundhog Day (Pennsylvania German: Grundsaudaag, Murmeltiertag) is a day celebrated on February 2. According to folklore, if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day, then spring will come early; if it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see its shadow and retreat back into its burrow, and the winter weather will continue for six more weeks."

Since this custom originated in Germany (although supposedly it originally was a badger and it is not celebrated over here, lol), I felt compelled to come up with a tribute to the groundhog. ;)

So here's my groundhog day challenge for you:

1. Download my little groundhogs by clicking on the image

http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/images/Min/CGD_groundhogday_preview600.jpg (http://bit.ly/11rHL9g)

2. Create a layout letting us know how much longer Winter will last where you are. Your page should include at least one groundhog. :)) ... and if you're "down under", let us know if Summer will last for 6 more weeks!!!! :DD

3. (this is optional) If you print out the groundhog and take a picture of him (of her, lol) outside so we can all see the (missing) shadow, you will win a small prize ;D

Deadline to post your completed layout will be Feb 10th, midnight EST.

Here is my take on the challenge (it's raining, so my little groundhog has some water spots already - even so I tried to snap the pic really fast, lol)

Have fun - I can't wait to see how much longer Winter will stay :))

Hey Min, How about a picture of a real ground hog? lol

That'd be awesome!

Unfortunately I don't have any groundhogs running around here... although if I'd get *really* close to our brown guinea pig I might be able to get away with it, LOL

I couldn't find a gallery so its in the members area. I'd print one out but its too cold with snow on the ground.Sadly we are over run with these critters. They eat more per day than a cow so they can decimate my garden! Not my favorite animal. I used to think they were cut til one ate the rose bush, the cacti, and then dug up the roots for each and ate them too.

I bet they could be a pest... if I see the amount of food our guinea pigs gobble up .. having a bunch of groundhogs in your garden must be like locust...:O ... but they are cute, lol ;)

Tried cooking one one day. Figured they'd eaten my garden- that day all the green beans and half the corn. But while some of the older people who trap the marsh for muskrats and beaver still eat them, it was tough as shoe leather and tasted nothing like my green beans and corn. Never again! lol.

What fun was this! Thank you. It's actually a nice day here in Billings, Montana. 43 degrees and the snow is melting. We would have at least another 6 weeks of winter, even if he didn't see his shadow!

This was SO CUTE, that I had to do the challenge and I LOVE that it is a February challenge that isn't about "love!"

I took the picture of the groundhog on my front porch surrounded by cat (?) footprints in the snow.

Such cute groundhogs - I just had to create a LO! The top picture shows the groundhog in the snow in front of my mother's home. I "photoshopped" him onto a sandy beach for the second photo.

Sorry Min, I didn't know where to post this and didn't see anything for Ground Hog so I posted it in the main Gallery. Let me know if I need to repost.
No ground hogs around here (that I know of) except in the zoo. Lots and lots of squirrels though, they jump from the trees to the roof and back, they just have a hayday up there!! According to Phil we should have an early spring here in Dallas, Texas...drat. I grew up in Wisconsin, so I really miss the snow .......and I love sweaters and boots!! Not looking forward to the Texas Heat, hopefully we'll have a mild summer.

My youngest son was born on Groundhog Day. There were far too many offers to put him back so that he wouldn't see his shadow......

If he came to our house (he lives about 800 miles away now, as he's all grown up and the daddy of 2), I'd take his picture now, though!

Love the graphic - thanks!
