Use only this kit from

You will receive a coupon by Personal Message to buy this kit in the store HERE (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13_85&products_id=3727).

Create a SINGLE 12X12 LAYOUT using as much of the kit as you can to promote it as much as possible, whilst still keeping your page, including shadows and layers, BALANCED AND EYECATCHING.

By Shadows I mean they should be consistent, all in the same direction and relative to the distance off the page that particular element or paper is.

Your layout should be resized to 600 x 600 pixels before uploading to the gallery, otherwise your layout will get stuck in the queue.

In this round you must:

post a link to the kit in your description and you must credit the designer and kit
mention any changes besides adding shadows. so if you added a bevel or glow or cropped anything you must say so in the description area when you post your page.
Post your layout in the Week 2 Gallery and also the designer's gallery then post the (week 2 gallery) url link from the address bar here in this thread so that we know you have posted and can go leave you some love.
If you have a legitimate problem getting your layout up on time, ie computer issue or internet connection problem or a studio upload based problem, let us know and we may make an exception, otherwise all pages must be uploaded by the deadline.

Once you have uploaded your 'official' entry for the week you are not to edit it in any way once it's been uploaded to the gallery. You can do as many layouts as you wish but doing more than one layout will also mean any votes you get will be for the layout not for you as a contestant, so keep that in mind. More layouts may mean less votes for you in the poll in the long run.

POST DEADLINE : MIDNIGHT EST Sunday 12th September

POST YOUR LAYOUT IN THE LAYOUT ARTIST COMPETITION WEEK 2 GALLERY (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=1152).

POLL FOR VOTING : will go up in a separate thread just after MIDNIGHT EST SUNDAY NIGHT

POLLING CLOSES : Midnight est on Tuesday 14th September

35 contestants will go on to round 3
A new thread with those who will be going on and the new week 2 assignment will be posted on WEDNESDAY 15th September ALL CONTESTANTS MOVING ON IN THE CONTEST WILL RECEIVE THE NEXT KIT BY PM MESSAGE.

No offering freebies or any other incentives for votes
You can blog about the competition and you can have a banner or blinkie or such in your signature to advertise that you are a contestant
You can have "Please vote for Me" in your signature or banner/blinkie or on your blog just don't offer anything in return for votes in the poll.

Congratulations to all those moving into Round 2, have fun this week and I can't wait to see what you all do :)

09-08-2010, 01:22 AM
Congrats to all of you who made it into Round 2 - I'm looking forward to seeing your layouts :)

09-08-2010, 09:06 AM
Congratulations all! You're gonna LOVE playing with Tracy's kit!! :DD

09-08-2010, 09:32 AM
I'm surprised and happy I made the cut! :) All the layouts were so well done, it was a shame that everyone couldn't go on to round two. I didn't see one bad layout in the gallery and the choice of only four, (because everyone who was in the round voted for themselves, right?) was VERY difficult!

Now I'm home with all of my photos to use and working with a kit I hemmed and hawed about buying when it first came out. I should be able to create something truly wonderful this time, especially considering the topic and my husband's favorite color is burgundy!

Congrats to everyone who was in round one - even if you didn't advance, putting yourself out there is a victory. Scrapping is about our memories and the people and things that are dear to us. I know the voting was for the layout, but it was still a strange feeling of everyone voting on my day with my husband - I think it was easier when I was in the designer competition because there wasn't anything personal!

Best of luck to everyone in round 2!

In the rules for this week it states that we have to note any changes that are made- does that include resizing? Sorry if that seems like a silly question, just want to make sure I making notes as I go along if I need to remember all the resizes I do. Also if we only use one of the spilled beads how would you write that up.
Having so much fun playing with this kit =)

Resizing is usually a normal process like shadowing in layouts. We want to know of any 'physical' changes you make because when people see a lovely layout and want to buy the kit they often 'presume' what you have on your layout is exactly what is in the kit but if you have changed something or made a paper curl yourself etc then of course that would not be in the kit and thus be a little misleading, hope this helps :)

I can't believe I made it to round 2..Ima hoopin and a hollerin here...thanks for all those who voted for me
here is round 2 (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=64471&title=week-2&cat=1152)

clustering is so hard for me....I am usually symmetrical so I really liked this contest because it is forcing me out of the box...

thanks for letting me play

09-08-2010, 03:32 PM
WOO HOO!!! and we're off and running with our first layout ... and what a gorgeous layout it is too :)

09-08-2010, 06:02 PM
Beautiful LO! I am also using a picture (actually two) from the 50's. I am about half way through designing my LO, should have it up tomorrow some time.

09-08-2010, 07:14 PM

Please remember to do your description correctly according to this week's rules in the first post in this thread :)

09-08-2010, 08:23 PM
Thanks for another beautiful kit to work with and the chance to move on for another week. Can't wait to see the fantastic LO's that get posted this week!

09-08-2010, 10:09 PM

Lovely job Ms Katy and yes you followed the rules correctly :)

I already love seeing my kit in the gallery, beautiful pages so far ladies

09-08-2010, 11:30 PM
I actually went through from one to three photos from three different events and changed this layout so much - I think I'm way overthinking! It's a lovely kit and I want to do it justice!

Still, I like my layout. Hope a few more people do too!

Here's my week 2: Kiss Cam (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=64532&nocache=1)

Thanks Tracy for the beautiful kit! I love the colors! Congratulations and good luck to everyone!!

09-09-2010, 12:14 AM
I agree with Nani.....did the layout 3 times before I got the one I liked....anyway, here's my LO for this week. Thanks again and good luck everyone!

09-09-2010, 05:51 AM
As soon as I saw the kit I knew what pictures I wanted to use. My parents just celebrated their 56 wedding anniversary and I wanted to use pictures from their wedding. I just hope I did their pictures and the kit justice.

09-09-2010, 07:48 AM
i know exactly what photo i wanna use i just can't find it. if i don't find it today i'll have to rethink everything ARGH!

Wow I really am loving the gallery, you are all making my kit look stunning!! thank you all so much :)

Just a note, sometimes when you post the link in your description, the gallery mysteriously inserts amp; after the & in the url address, which breaks the link, so if you go to edit your photo you can delete the amp; and it will be fine again :)

just the gallery being a pain urgh LOL.

09-09-2010, 08:00 AM
Good Morning Ladies,
Here is the link to my layout. Thanks for looking!

I've discovered that the gallery will add the amp; after the & symbol ONLY if you add the link on the FIRST page when uploading... if you wait until the second page to add the link in your description, it will not add the amp; and the link will not be broken! Hope that helps some! It is a pain to remember sometimes! :)

Thank you!

I linked mine so that the words 'Gone a Courtin' would be linked. It does not show-up this way and only shows link. I did it the same way I link things in my other galleries. Is there something I must do differently here? Technology! :DD

09-09-2010, 09:22 AM
Thank you!

I linked mine so that the words 'Gone a Courtin' would be linked. It does not show-up this way and only shows link. I did it the same way I link things in my other galleries. Is there something I must do differently here? Technology! :DD

yes, our gallery is set up so that you don't have to use the [ url ] HTML tags - just copy/paste the link into your description (without linking words) and it will convert it for you into [ link ]

for example I would list it as:

Gone A Courtin' http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13_85&products_id=3727 by Ambowife Designs

and it will convert it to look like

Gone A Courtin' [ link (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13_85&products_id=3727) ] by Ambowife Designs

However, add your links on the 2nd page in the description box so that it does not convert the & symbol to the amp; - it breaks the link if you add to the first page.... hope that helps some! :)

edit to add:
hmmm... I wonder if Diego would know of a way to stop it from converting the & symbol on the first page.... will have to ask Toiny! ;)

09-09-2010, 09:48 AM
Thank you so much, Kimberly! I will have to change my links when I have a bit more time. I have to go change diapers and get lunch ready for my daycare children.

09-09-2010, 10:46 AM
oh,wow,I didn't know that,how awesome!I fixed my link.Thanks so much,looks much better!

if you need to fix your link or anything else, like link to the designer's gallery, here's how to do that

Under the upload photos button is the photo options button it has a little arrow at the side of it click on that to expand the drop down menu and choose edit photo, this is where you can remove that pesky amp; or add to other galleries etc :)

Off to leave you all some love, what great pages you are all coming up with this week!!

09-09-2010, 10:20 PM
Here's mine for week 2. Thanks for such a beautiful kit to work with.

Man oh man this week was a hard one for me... I think I went through 5 ideas, and attempts at what I wanted to do before I was inspired enough to sit down for this one... But here is my end result. Instead of posting link, image is linked.

This was tough for me, too. I'd put in, take out, put in, take out. I finally hit on a combination I was pleased with. The only changes I made were to add a stroke to the frame, used a custom shape for the mat, & made a list of songs with the word LOVE in the title. I'm tickled to get this far. Thanks for the great kit to work with. Hopefully I'll be around for at least one more round, hope, hope!

Everyone's pages look GORGEOUS!!! I wish I could have them all as QP's!
And thank you, so much, Tracy, for not only the kit, but the technical help with linking to your store; you, too, Kimberkatt, for the 2nd-page tip... I'll remember that!

Oh My what fun I have had going through the gallery, you are all blowing me away with your gorgeous pages this week!! I apologise for the problems with linking up to the store in your descriptions. I have fixed those I could find that were broken. Must be an update bug from our latest upgrade. Please be aware you won't be penalised for this since it pretty much effected everyone in one way or another.

I have left love for you all and can't wait for round 3 now rofl :) super job everyone!!!

For those who have yet to upload their creation you have until midnight sunday 12th September :) Good luck to all, it's going to be so so hard to vote this week!

09-12-2010, 09:29 AM
Well - it's been a rough week for me and I'm glad I'm not in the competition. Feeling rotten all week and voilent flu symptoms last night (no more description needed). Here's me and my little guy. I know this kit would look totaly great with pics of my little girl, but I really like the feeling of my love for Mitchell with the non-so-traditional boy colors.

Good luck to everybody in round 2, can't wait to see who joins our CT team.

Oh rats!!! The posting time was eastern time! Ahhhhh! I'm in Central time zone. Well,it can't be helped! I just finished the progressive scrap and I have about an hour left of work on the layout for this competition. Even though I am going to be a bit late,I couldn't help it. I will throw myself on the mercy of the court (Ambow) and the jury ( my fellow layout contestants). I think I bit off more than I can chew and everything became due all at once. I have been working on these layouts since this morning at around 11 am and now it's after midnight central time. I didn't even eat today, just so I could keep scrapping. I try to be like everyone else, but having chronic pain in my life from 4 spinal neck injuries from a nasty car accident really does affect everything in my life. All of the pain meds I am on, making my thinking a bit scattered than normal and the physical aspect of the pain makes me much slower than normal. Realizing now that I can't even keep up with 3 challenge at a time (pro. scrap , layout contest , and the hybrid challenge which I tried to start on day one,but had to put that on hold until after the progressive scrap and layout contest are over... shoot ! I haven't even finished all of Ms. Hartline's hybrid house album.) I would like to ask that I not be considered for a ct spot for the Studio, if I were to win the layout contest. I would like the rest of the prize goodies, if I even won, but looking at my competition that would be unlikely. I would like to continue getting the participation kits,so I can continue participating until I get cut from the contest .
That said, I am off to finish my week 2 layout and I hope that no one objects to my layout being a bit late. I just can't keep up the "normal" pace of things any more.
Thanks! Gee I am hungry and my bones are creaking!
Night All.

I'm sorry hun but it wouldn't be fair to the contestants who did get their layouts in on time and do want the ct position. Thank you for taking part though when it is obviously a difficult thing for you to do with your chronic pain. Best of luck to you in the other challenges too.

Here's my week two entry. I'm late due to new baby brain making me think it was Saturday today not Sunday and the baby would NOT go to sleep tonight (this morning). If I am forgiven my entry can be found here:

I'm going to be REALLY late with this one... thank goodness I'm not competing!! My PS ate my layout!!!!!!!! I guess that's what I get for having a bazillion things open all at the same time  So, I'm back to square one here... at least I know what I'm doing this time, so it should be quick to recreate! ;) :DD

Tracy would have booted me from the CT a loooong time ago - my procrastination doesn't help these matters! :l :DD
