WEEK 4 ASSIGNMENT
Use only this kit from
"Tears on My Pillow "
You will receive a coupon by Personal Message to buy this kit in the store HERE (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=194&products_id=4449).
Create a SINGLE 12X12 LAYOUT using as much of the kit as you can to promote it as much as possible, whilst still keeping your page, including shadows and layers, BALANCED AND EYECATCHING.
By Shadows I mean they should be consistent, all in the same direction and relative to the distance off the page that particular element or paper is.
Your layout should be resized to 600 x 600 pixels before uploading to the gallery, otherwise your layout will get stuck in the queue.
In this round you must:
post a link to the kit in your description and you must credit the designer and kit
mention any changes besides adding shadows. so if you added a bevel or glow or cropped anything you must say so in the description area when you post your page.
Post your layout in the Week 4 Gallery (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=1154) and also the designer's gallery (Julie C) then post the (week 4 gallery) url link from the address bar here in this thread so that we know you have posted and can go leave you some love.
If you have a legitimate problem getting your layout up on time, ie computer issue or internet connection problem or a studio upload based problem, let us know BEFORE THE DEADLINE BY PM MESSAGE and we may make an exception, otherwise all pages must be uploaded by the deadline.
Once you have uploaded your 'official' entry for the week you are not to edit it in any way once it's been uploaded to the gallery. You can do as many layouts as you wish but doing more than one layout will also mean any votes you get will be for the layout not for you as a contestant, so keep that in mind. More layouts may mean less votes for you in the poll in the long run.
POST DEADLINE : MIDNIGHT EST Sunday 26th September
POST YOUR LAYOUT IN THE LAYOUT ARTIST COMPETITION WEEK 4 GALLERY (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=1154).

Looks like a really pretty kit, just downloaded but won't be able to take a peek until I get home from work today. Can't wait to see everyone's layouts this week:)
09-22-2010, 09:11 AM
Okay, I just couldn't wait to play with this kit. I had so many ideas swarming in my head. I decided to let my son have the morning off from lessons (we homeschool) and to let my creative juices flow.
09-22-2010, 11:22 AM
ok i must say it. this is not fair and there should be an add on to this kit. with some simplier papers. the ones in this kit are sooooooooooo beautiful i don't want to cover them up with photos and elements :( and u gotta use the elements cuz they r just as gorgeous :) beautiful kit now to figure out what to do with it....hmmmmmmm
Here's my Week 4 layout. Wow, it was so tough to pick papers and elements. They were all so beautiful.. I ended up blending 4 of the blue papers into one; I reduced the reflection on the round frame; placed larger flower and butterfly on top of swirl; and used a template made by me for the circles(if this was a no-no, I can remove it)
If this should be my last round, I just want to say I had a blast!! Everyone is so talented!! Thanks to everyone involved, and for all the great kits we used. I will be rooting for you guys--Good Luck everyone.

09-24-2010, 04:16 AM
I was absolutely flabberghasted when i took a look in the gallery. There are some really awesome layouts in there already. I'm glad I'm not in the competition...just playing along. I wouldn't have a chance. LOL
Here's the one I did. I actually did two because when I had the first one almost finished the paper with the broken hearts kept drawing me back to look at it and I ended up creating the layout I posted.
Link for it is here. http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=65994&nocache=1
It was a layout that tore at my heartstrings alot, but that's sometimes important to help us deal with trauma.
09-24-2010, 05:18 AM
I, too, am thrilled to have gotten to stay into week 4! Thanks everybody! This was a huge and beautiful kit to work with. All the papers were so pretty it was hard to pick a base from which to start. I hope I did this justice as I am having to scrap in the middle of the night due to two sets of company being with me this week! What timing!
Here's my layout titled "Come Back"
09-24-2010, 06:55 AM
This kit was just marvelous. I loved working with it. ;)
I just couldn't let myself forget any of the elements or papers. They all where fantastic. So therefore my LO has the total amount of 127 layers. ;)
Here it is (image is linked):
09-24-2010, 01:51 PM
Here is mine for week 4. Thank you for the wonderful kit to work with. I had another Lo in mind to do, but my family just lost a loved one and I wanted to do a memorial page, and the kit fit wonderfully. I hope you like it. Good luck to everyone!
09-24-2010, 05:28 PM
I finished my task
09-24-2010, 06:08 PM
I couldn't help myself. I had to do another layout with the kit. This is the one I started first then left it to do the 'Til Death' one. This one is a much happier layout. :)
09-24-2010, 06:51 PM
Yet another fantastic week! I am LOVING everyone's creations! I am going to be sad seeing this competition come to the end.

09-24-2010, 10:39 PM
I was so excited to try a fantasy layout (have never done one in that style before), but I absolutely fell in love with the flowers and greenery in the kit. They just reminded me of a tropical/beachy kind of feel. So it kinda went from there. Hope you like it!
09-24-2010, 11:22 PM
WOW WOW WOW incredible pages so far this week!!! Left some loving in the gallery for y'all :)
09-25-2010, 03:20 AM

09-25-2010, 04:43 PM
Here's mine, not sure I'm completely satisfied with it, might have to do another one!!!
09-25-2010, 05:29 PM
Yay, I love this kit! I started on a LO with a pic of me and my baby that I love, but this kit made me feel so romantic and dreamy, nothing else would do, but to start all over from scratch! Thanks so much for letting us showcase this kit for Julie - what a privilege to make it to this point! If anyone has a spare half hour or so to read the essay I wrote in the gallery, here's the link: http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=66082&title=homein-your-arms&cat=1154
I couldn't resist scrapping another photo of me and my dream date last month... I took lots of pics, cause we NEVER get out like that, and I wanted to scrap it all!
09-25-2010, 07:16 PM
Here is my layout. Had so much fun! I had to make my self stop yet again! Wonderful kit Julie C. loved the colors!!
Good luck ladies!
09-25-2010, 08:29 PM
I finally have this one done. Some days I really hate my computer and how slow it gets! Here it is: http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=66100&title=happy-the-bride&cat=1154
09-25-2010, 08:53 PM
Fabulous job this week ladies, I am loving all your pages, another tough vote I feel!!
09-25-2010, 10:35 PM
Ok here is my layout.. I actually made 2 but this is my entry. If you get a chance click on the link and check out the song, it goes so well with the kit and I have been actually looking for a kit to go with this song for a long time, too bad I couldn't make all the lyrics fit!
And if I don't make it to the final round, it has been such a thrill getting to work with your kits and making all the new friends I have made here within this challenge.
Thank you guys for everything!
09-25-2010, 11:35 PM
Here's mine for this week
09-26-2010, 09:09 AM
Here is my entry for week 4. I used the wonderful kit by Julie C. titled “Tears on my pillow” It is a tribute, a semi shadow box, for my Mom.
The link for the kit is here- http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio...oducts_id=4449
I used 5 of the papers, 4 cropped or resized, and the lace, turned and resized, to form a border. Otherwise it was just resizing, adding the letters to the tag, and shadows. The hardest part was trying to decide what not to use as this is a great kit, in my Mom’s favorite colors. She’s long gone now, and there are always tears on my pillow when I think of her, but this picture is from the late 60’s when she looked much better than at 82 when she left me.Some of the distance in the shadows may not be consistent because of the shadowbox I was trying to achieve. Thank you, Julie C. for the privilege of letting us use your great kit.
This was fun. Hopefully it is worth but if not, I have enjoyed myself, though this week has been extremely busy in my life and I'm a bit late getting posted. Best wishes and good luck to all.
09-26-2010, 12:11 PM
Here's my entry, "I Feel Pretty":
09-26-2010, 03:33 PM
Fabulous job ladies :) not long now till the voting begins! Just another 7 1/2 hours to go LOL
09-26-2010, 03:36 PM
I think I've lost my scrapping mojo - too much going on with the kids back in school.
Here is my "play along" for week 4.
I love this picture of my daughter, but the quality of the color photo wasn't the best and was a little too dark. I like the way it turned out with the black and white photo.
Best of luck to the final grounp as week 4 closes.
09-26-2010, 04:02 PM
I really like that photo too, it's a shame the color version is too dark for you hun, are you using a program that allows you to play with the levels??
In photoshop you can go to Image>adjustments>levels and play with the sliders to get it lighter, when you take a photo the histogram should be like a mountain, the dark is on the left and the light is on the right, the sliders for each should be right at the edge of the mountain, this is how I adjust the light in my photos when they turn out to dark.
Another way is to add a duplicate layer of the image and put the blend mode on screen and then play with the opacity or fill till it looks how you want it.
hope that helps some hun
But it still looks fabulous with the greyscale version too :)
09-26-2010, 05:52 PM
Love the kit, but this week was more of a challenge as I just couldn't find a picture that I really wanted to use and did not want to use a stock photo. Finally choose one of Alexa from this years dance recital. Titled the layout Ballet Dreams (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=66173&title=ballet-dreams&cat=1154)
Elements have been resized and shadows added
Changes made erased bits of flourishes to fit as needed, duplicated curtains and used overlay blend to make them easier to see.
09-26-2010, 08:34 PM
What an awesome kit to work with! I love the colors, the huge variety of embies, everything! Thank you Julie for letting us use this gorgeous kit. Here is my layout:
09-26-2010, 09:19 PM
OH now it's getting exciting, under 2 hours to go before the poll goes up. Good luck everyone
only one left to post
Starlight-Princess!!! where are you hun??
09-27-2010, 10:26 AM
I'm late... I'm late... I should have been a Rabbit instead of a Katt....
Here's my play-along... I'm in agreement with Barb: I think my mojo is taking a looooonnnnggggg break, I hope it's well rested to start this photobook I need to get done in... oh... two weeks!!!
All-in-all, I didn't do this kit justice, it's so beautiful! But, here's my attempt anyway! :DD
