A Big, Huge Wooooooooohoooooooooo on a job well-done. Those paper packs look fantabulous in the gallery. An extra pat on the back for so many of theStudio Design Team playing along. I'm enjoy the heck out of this so far.

In case no one saw this coming, I'm so sneaky hiding behind my bunny ears, this week is all about the elements! Business stuff first... if you are new this week. You may still play! You are still eligible for this weeks prizes. You are, unfortunately, not eligible for the Grand Prize.

Note: You must use the same palette as last week. The theme is still "Wedding".

Most Important Note: To qualify for the Grand Prize of a Wacom Bamboo you must participate in all 4 weeks.

Are you ready?

Week 2: Elements!

Your assignment for Week 2:

Use last weeks palette (or pick one if this is your first week joining us)
You do not have to share the palette on your preview. But you may.
Use the theme: Wedding
30 elements. No more, no less. No duplicates (ie recolored).
Due date: Thursday April 14 at midnight (EST)
Preview only the elements.
You must post your preview in the Week 2: Spring Fling Design Contest (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/g1240-week-2-3a-spring-fling-design-contest.html)
Preview size is standard 600X600 @72dpi
You must provide download links (4shared, boxnet, rapidshare, etc.).
You may blog, blog, blog!
Voting is done exclusively by the Admin & Design Team at theStudio
That's it! This is for fun, we are not QC'ing you. Still, do remember to include a TOU with your zip files. Do remember to credit the CU artists who helped you design your products.

Remember the palette (your choice) and theme: Wedding (my choice) are for the duration of this contest.

Have F-U-N! :XX

this is probably a dumb question Toiny, but if I make a frame and use it as one element, then can I make a cluster element that includes that frame and a bunch of other goodies as a second element?

Beautiful elements, Aimee! And so quick ;)

Oh, how long do we keep our links active for on the papers?

Toiny
04-08-2011, 08:59 AM
Questions & Answers...

You may use elements to create a cluster element.

You may keep your links to your papers up (recommend, not required) or take them down after judging is in later today/early Saturday morning.

Yaaaay! I was hoping that was next and I'm glad I have a week to get it in (hopefully not at the last Min.) since I see some challenging extracting in my future!! That is my weak area so I am forcing myself to do it. Did I mention that I LOVE the theme and that you let us pick our own palettes?? Fun times ;)

Hey, Monika... can I hire you to do my elements for me?!?!?! It's really not cheating if I pay you to do it! Really! :l

Hey Designers, was just wondering if I could make an important suggestion? I do love downloading all your kits but if you want proper credit I have to suggest this. Sorry if I'm out of line here I'm no designer.
Could you please put your name or initials not only on the zip file but also on each item in that folder; They should really have your name or your initials and possibly the name of the kit or contest name. (eg: piggyscraps_forever_papers or LDS-Forever). Especially your TOU should have your name on the file name. eg: (Cindyrelly_TOU or CW_TOU)
Just a suggestion, thanks, sweethussie.

kimberkatt
04-08-2011, 12:14 PM
Joan - that is a VERY good suggestion! ;) I hope I named mine right, I never did check that before I uploaded

TOU's are also very important... that way, your designs will not be misused, either on purpose or accidentally! Just a simple notepad file that says "these designs are for personal use only please" with your name and link to your blog if you have one is all that is needed! ;) :)

I have decided not to include major word art, clusters or alpha seeing that it might be included in another week. I have been working very hard extracting and taking pictures to try to get as many different elements as possible before I use "fillers".

Tracy I love that list by the way and I will definately print it out and put it next to my computer as I get stumped for inspiration a lot when it comes to elements.

I had trouble stopping at 30 once I got going rofl.

Floridapi I think if it's just the way the color went when you used a blend mode then it's fine, it's if it's a totally different color altogether that Toiny will pull you up on it. The same hue/tone is fine :)

I'm loving this guys! A little hint, I do this with most kits I make, create a style or two you love and use that to make a couple different, matching elements. Wordart, custom shapes (ie hearts), frames, all lend themselves well to being "styled".

You can also try taking an existing element (wedding goblet, flower, etc.) and applying a style. That might get you a 2nd element with little effort. I'm not saying elements should be effortless LOL, but sometimes simple is best.

Smooches!

So, do we have to have permission per each person we've gotten Styles from (as it would be time consuming), or do we just make a statement in our TOU that we used so & so's style, to add special emphasis on our elements to make them look attractive?

I'd love to be able to get this Tablet, however 30 elements seem like a lot, & I'm not sure if I can get it done in time (my fault, as I do not see myself as good with elements). I should of asked this question sooner.......!!

I need to learn to make styles one of these days!!

I'm off to the gallery to comment in a bit, these are awesome!

Cindy: You are absolutely allowed to give away extras on your blog!

Cyndi: You do not need special permission, but the TOUs do need to read as CU-okay and/or that it is okay to use in creating freebies. Most personal-use styles will not be okay to use in the creation of a kit, whether for sale or give as a freebie.

So, it is okay to use styles as long as the CU says it is okay?

Note: I know some of them say it is okay, when creating something for someone, however it doesn't specify if it is for print, or can be used for scrap kit purposes. I'm guessing it is for printing purposes, & they do not mention the use for creating scrap kits, weather free or not.

So, the use of styles are not okay, used for the "Elements" for added special effects?

Note: The shadows on the styles can be eliminated, if that is an issue.

I'm not positive I understand your questions. You may use styles on any of your elements provide the style is a commercial use style. Feel free to PM me, or Ambowife, any TOU's that are not clear. We are more than happy to help.

Shadows are okay, but most scrappers prefer to add their own shadows. It is recommend that you save your elements without shadows.

Smooches,

Toiny

So, it is okay to use styles as long as the CU says it is okay?

Note: I know some of them say it is okay, when creating something for someone, however it doesn't specify if it is for print, or can be used for scrap kit purposes. I'm guessing it is for printing purposes, & they do not mention the use for creating scrap kits, weather free or not.

So, the use of styles are not okay, used for the "Elements" for added special effects?

Note: The shadows on the styles can be eliminated, if that is an issue.

As for TOU's, I usually avoid the ones longer than a few lines, they all seem to contradict what you can and can't do, leaving a lot to interpretation I think.

And can I say thank you to the designers for keeping me going, your tips really helped a lot.

I just bought Booland's Styles: as it is closet to the color theme I'm going with in my scrap kit & the only thing it seems to state is not to duplicate her work for sale. So, I'm under the impression that it is okay to use her Styles in my elements.

Unless you think I should contact her.

You are fine Cyndi! Boo's styles are okay for PU & CU use. You used them just right.

By duplicating work she means selling her styles as your styles. Not using them to make things all pretty :D

Yes, I can use them in my design, just not resale the item I bought, which is what I thought. I'm happy with that, as all I want to do is use her styles in my elements. I PM'd her 2 make sure.

Oooops! I was just organizing my "extras" when I realized I have Two Butterfly Buttons... Does that disqualify me per the No duplicates (ie recolored) rule? If it does can I resubmit? My flowers are all different even the Pink "frosting" flowers that came from the flower cake my Mom sent me for my birthday. I almost put a brooch in but then thought, no, because that would put me over the limit...

*sigh* i've only managed to extract one tonight, my first... might have 15 pictures taken so far and some more scanning to do but doing it all from scratch, i'm not going to make it in time. i'd have to work steady on it for the next 48 hours and it's not realistic... i don't have much at all that is wedding specific anyway, not even a cake :( i guess i'll just keep working on it and it will be done when it will be done.

I would love to join, but we are completely submerged in tax-trauma right now and I have school too.

That being said, I wonder if I could join in if there is an alpha week or clusters, quick pages, etc. I did a kit for our wedding that I sold at another scrap site in 2009. I’d love to add to that if I can, after the taxes are done! :)

The papers and elements so far look fabulous!

Wooohoooo! I'm DONE!!! Yeah baby! :(( What a struggle that was! Anygma, I admire you doing everything from scratch, I had to rely on way too much CU for my liking.... If I had to do everything from scratch, there would be NO WAY I would have made the deadline! I do have some things from scratch, though and, let me tell you, the recoloring on some of the items was a big PITA!! And I even did my very first GOOD extraction! :w Woohoo! :l
And got lots more practice with my tablet!! So I deem this challenge a success in my book!! It was actually the theme I struggled with, I'm soooo NOT a girly-girl and I don't like wedding's very much... so this is a HUGE accomplishment for me!! Thanks so much for the challenge, Toiny!! :XX

Up in the right corner you will see "Photo Options" Click that, then down towards the bottom of the drop down list you'll see "edit photo"

On the next screen, you will see a box where you can browse for the new preview - upload there, then make sure you click "Submit" or "Save" (I can't remember what it actually says ) at the bottom

This should replace your original image with the new one! If you don't see it change, refresh your screen - I went crazy one day trying to get it to work and all I had to do was refresh! lol

EDIT TO ADD: BTW, your kit is GORGEOUS!! :)

Well in my haste to get my things submitted I didn't QC them all and now that 84 people have already downloaded I went back (made it before midnight) and found 6 elements that needed to be fixed! Well I worked so hard to get done and here it is but I dont know what to do it is giving me fits loading into 4shared and it is finally working but it says it has 20 more min to load an the contest ends in just a few. I loaded my preview to prove I was done but I guess it is not up to me:(. Either way here they are and I will post my link in my preview as soon as it comes up.

Well I am editing to say I figured out what my problem was. It was the huge 78mb psd file of my preview that got some how saved into my folder. No wonder it was not being nice to me and taking 100 years. I had looked at my elements file size before and could not figure out why my little file was taking so long and here it was because it was almost 100 mb  So now I have to load it up again and put a different link but I am sure people would not enjoy my giant preview lol.

Everyones elements look beautiful! :)
