A big congratulations to every single one of you that finished last weeks challenge. I am amazed & dazzled by the goodies in our gallery. If you did not finish, you may put it up late, though you will not qualify for prizes this week or for the grand prize. If you did not participate last week, or any weeks, you may still join in this week!

Note: You must use the same palette & theme every week. The theme is "Wedding".

Most Important Note: To qualify for the Grand Prize of a Wacom Bamboo you must participate in all 4 weeks.

Are you ready?

Week 3: The Alpha!

Your assignment for Week 3:

You do not have to share the palette on your preview. But you may.
Use the theme: Wedding
1 Full Alpha (defined as upper & lower case; numbers optional).
Due date: Thursday April 21 at midnight (EST)

You must post your preview in the Week 3: Spring Fling Design Contest (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/g1244-week-3-3a-spring-fling-design-contest.html) gallery
Preview size is standard 600X600 @72dpi
You must provide download links (4shared, boxnet, rapidshare, etc.).
You may blog, blog, blog!
Voting is done exclusively by the Admin & Design Team at theStudio
That's it! This is for fun, we are not QC'ing you. Still, do remember to include a TOU with your zip files. Do remember to credit the CU artists who helped you design your products.

Remember the palette (your choice) and theme: Wedding (my choice) are for the duration of this contest.

Have F-U-N! :XX

oh, wooohooo! I LOVE making Alpha's!! this one should be pretty easy peasy!! :DD

OH EDIT: we can use our previous elements to make an Alpha, correct? Or does this have to be something completely new? Thought I'd ask before I went ahead and done did what I'm thinking of :DD

Yay! You all deserve a little "break" this week. Plus I love alpha's :D

You may absolutely use papers & elements from your previous weeks.

I was hoping that you would ask us for an Alpha this week since I have plans to go visit my Mom in 2 days so not a lot of time like last week. Dumb Question... Does the Font for both the Upper and Lower have to be the same?

Toiny
04-15-2011, 11:20 AM
Hmmm not a dumb question at all! Very interesting. I think you can use any font you'd like for Upper/Lower, mix them up, different fonts. This is your kit make the way you would like it!

Btw, that's a NO: fonts for Upper & Lower do not have to be the same.

Amen to the above statements, I too have the same problems. Can anyone help me on making an alpha: point me to some tutorials please? I use PS CS5.

I just got myself some big fonts awhile back, maybe that would be helpful? Or maybe I can find something unique out there.

lol That's probably why I love them, I run my action and am done in a couple of minutes. :D

Since saving them can be a big pain, I've made a coupon in case anyone is interested, you can grab my Quick Alpha Saver. Maybe it is of use to someone. The coupon will give you 60% off.

Coupon: MD59130 (case sensetive)

You can use it to quickly create and save you alpha.
You just have to make sure that you use a commercial use okay font :D and that you have arranged every letter in their box, saving is just a push of a button.

It has only been tested in CS2, CS3, PS7 and PSE6 though.

Oh, I LOVE Tan's alpha action! I scooped it up a few weeks back when it was marked down and it works beautifully! Here's to making life easier, woohoo! :(( :DD

Cyndi - an alpha is pretty easy to do once you decide on the font you'd like to use... I think that is the hardest part, settling on a font. Once you do that, you can play with clipping papers to the letters, adding styles, outlines, embellishments, etc... most people don't like doing alpha's because it is way time consuming and boring to save each letter individually, but, if you have an action, it makes Alpha's a breeze! ;)

I love alphas! I've been using a script (for PS) for a couple of years now, and it's an absolute winner for me! I have a few of my own templates that I've created using my favorite CU fonts, so I just have to stylize how I want, run the script, and I'm done!

Hiya Lindz, could you check and see if the you named the folder on your C drive correctly?
The sound of the error you describe indicates that might be the problem. It needs to be the exact name as you find in the instructions or the action will not be able to save the .png's. :)
It should be c://Quick Alpha Saver

Also when you are done creating your alpha, did you make sure you were left with your 1 flattened layer before you run the action?

I'll be out all day, hopefully it works when you when use the flattened layer and check your folder on the c: drive. I'll check back tonight and see. :)

I purchased it and used in CS5. The instructions said to create a folder on the C drive before running it. That's where your letters will be placed as the action runs. The lower case and numbers actions ran well with file names added correctly. The upper case ran, but did funky things mixing up file names, sort of assigning names randomly to the letters.

Wow! So many pretty Alpha Sets ;) I actually can't wait to finish mine that I started last week but I don't have an action and just create a photoshop template and save each individually after flattening the layers. I'm pretty close but I spent all weekend putting together a playset in the backyard (we still aren't done with the kids new apartment LOL) since my plans to visit my Mom changed till next month. However, seeing as how I can be the ultimate procrastinator... I am finishing my Federal Tax Return today to submit online as it is due by Midnight!! I will have my Alpha Set in by Thursday though ;)

Hmmmm not sure why it would do that. I've used the action for quite a while when I still had my windows based laptop and never had that happen to me. Would be quite interesting to know what caused that to happen.

I bought and used the action but I only have cs4. Had no problems except for creating the full sheet. Sometimes it said it couldn't do it with some of the fonts/style. No problem though because I don't put the full sheet in my file anyway because most customers prefer the individual files. At least my experience. Thanks by the way it was so helpful!

Mine did this because the numbers is saved under the upper case and the upper case is saved under the numbers. They are switched. That is how mine is anyway.. Once I figured that out I got everything to work fine. Thank you!

I agree, the gallery looks amazing! Sorry I haven't had a chance to comment ladies, my desktop computer kind of fizzled out on me and this ancient laptop I'm using stutters & sputters all over the place! It's very slow & if the page I'm trying to open has a lot of images, it pretty much freezes it up! Luckily, the tech guy is coming Wednesday to fix up the desktop, so I'll be back in action soon! :DD I miss scrapping, though! :( This past week has been tough!
