Here are the instructions for this month's recipe card challenge/exchange:

1. Click HERE (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13_189&products_id=8104) for this month's starter kit; it will be free to those who participated in the prior month's challenge. Please use this kit (or papers/elements you design in the same color palette) so the cards will "coordinate" and to ensure we don't violate other designers' TOU.

2. The general theme for this month's cards is your favorite CANNING recipes ~ the post below this one includes the specifics. Be creative and have fun with your cards! If you need different metal tags and don't have them from previous kits, send me an e-mail and I'll make them for you.

3. Design your recipe card(s) however you'd like. Include your name, forum name ~ whatever you want ~ on the card.

4. Create your original card at 6" wide X 4" tall (1800 and 1200 pixels) and save it as a 300 ppi jpeg, quality between 8 to 10. These are the print-quality cards that will be shared with all participants. You will also need to resize your card at 72 ppi to post in the gallery.

WHEN FINISHED with your card(s), do the following 3 things:

1. E-mail your print-quality, 300 ppi recipe card to [email protected] so it can be included in the download file at the end of the month. Several participants have asked for blank copies of the cards you design, so if you're willing to send me both (with and without the words), that would be great!

2. Upload a picture of your 72 ppi card to the Recipe Card Challenge Gallery (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=1042). Please upload only your actual recipe card ~ not the blank cards.

3. Post a link here in this forum thread no later than August 31.

At the end of the month, all participants will receive a link to download all the cards created that month. Bon appétit!!

In July's challenge, I mentioned that we would be doing a "canning" challenge in the future. Well, the future is now!

This month will focus on canning, freezing, drying, preserving, whatever you want to call it ~ and can include, but is not limited to: jams, jellys, pickles, chuntneys, relishes, sauces, salsa, fruit, vegetables, jerky, dehydrated products, etc. I've included a few elements specific to this theme and several that are more general. Feel free to include photos of your real-life canning accomplishments! Your card(s) can also include "tips" instead of an actual recipe -- like how to freeze zucchini or blanch corn or easily peel tomatoes.

And never fear if you DON'T can -- include a recipe that uses one of these products -- which makes this a wide-open theme with lots of possibilities. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Thanks, Doris C and KCarlson, for this idea in our "suggestion" thread.

You've done it again, Maurine-what an adorable kit! Thank you. A fun theme this month, too. I've done very little in the way of canning, but my mom used to. I'll have to see what I can come up with.

I took my own advice and made a recipe card that USES a "canned" product -- it's for Jam-Topped Mini Cheesecakes. You can see it here (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/recipe-card-challenge/p80846-jam-topped-mini-cheesecakes.html).

This is a great kit. I really enjoyed this month's challenge again. So once more, thank you for the kit and all of the hard work you do for us.

I used to make and freeze juices often when my children were younger. I still do some, but not as much. I found a great way to save room in my freezer. I put the juice into freezer, zip bags and pushed out the air. Then I laid them flat on a cookie sheet to freeze. I have a tray in the freezer to cover up the racks and to give me a solid bottom. When the juice is frozen, I stand the bags up as if they were in a file system. It takes up a lot less room and makes it easy to find what you are looking for.

We end up with duplicate recipes on months when the theme is much broader than this one; I expect there will be several duplicates this month, and that's totally OK. Even when the recipe is the same, the cards are always so different and unique. You did a great job! : )

It's so funny when I look at how small the first starter kits were for this challenge and how they've grown. Even when they were small, the cards were terrific. These days, I always want to add "just one more thing" -- which quickly becomes several! I watch what is used each month to see what seems to be used vs. what never/rarely is, and I use that information for the next month's contents. My goal really is to make these a bit smaller again and really focus in on what you want/need.

What's my point? I'd love to hear your constructive feedback (here or a separate e-mail message) on what you like, don't care for, wish I'd include, etc. This month, I added some lightly patterned papers to give an "in-between" the solids and regular patterned papers, and it looks like several people are using those, so I'll probably include them in some/all future kits. Would you rather have those or fully-patterned papers? Your feedback on the starter kits is always welcome...

Dear friends: Sorry for my "absence" this month. I had surgery the end of July and it's taken a bit longer to feel better and do more than the daily, bare necessities -- guess I'm not as young or resilient as I used to be! : )

I will be responding to all your e-mails and posting some comments in the forum -- thanks for your patience in the meantime. You've all done really well this month with a tougher-than-normal challenge category -- I'm impressed with the quality of the cards and variety of the recipes.

Don't let the "green tomato" part throw you off. The flavor blends with the apples and raisins and you don't really taste the tomatoes, they are there mostly for texture, I think. This is a heritage recipe through my mother's line. I beleive the tomatoes were originally used to reduce the number of apples needed. Don't judge it based on previous experience with mincemeat either. It tastes nothing like the stuff you find in the store. This is really yummy!

I don't can, but this recipe does use a CAN of tomato soup. I just really wanted to start being involved in these challenges and start collecting some great recipes! Hope you'll accept me into the club with this recipe for Porcupine Meatballs.....

Hi, everyone. My goal before the day is over is to get comments on all your cards in the gallery and send you the coupon code for the September starter kit. Let me know if you don't hear from me.

Thanks so much for all your efforts this month. I knew this would be a little bit of a tough challenge for a lot of us, but you came through with flying colors! The cards and recipes are wonderful!

August's challenge is now officially closed!
