Welcome to theStudio's Hybrid Artist CT Competition!
You can find general rules & info here. (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9770)

Week 1 Challenge
Hybrid Layout

We're diving right into week one with a hybrid layout!

Week 1 Instructions

Create a 8x8in (or larger) hybrid layout as follows:

1. You may use any digital kit currently available in theStudio's Shop (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/store/).

If you want or need to purchase a kit, I would be happy to provide either a free mini kit or a
50% coupon for any kit or collection in my shop (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=13_229). However you do NOT have to use one of my products.

2. The digital portion of your project must include a minimum of one (1) paper,
one (1) photo and one (1) creative use of typography (font).

3. SECRET INGREDIENT: The last instruction will be communicated via PM on Wed Sept 7
(or within 12 hours of your signup if you sign up on Sept 7 or 8 ).

4. Upload your completed project to the Hybrid Artist CT Competition Gallery (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/g1303-hybrid-artist-ct-competition.html) no later than 10 Sept 11:59 PM.

5. You must list proper credit for ALL supplies used to complete your project.

Objectives

We're giving you a lot of free reign on this first challenge!
We're looking for these important hybrid skills:

1. Demonstrate your ability to mix-n-match digital with physical supplies to create a beautiful, well planned layout.

2. Ability to photograph (or scan) your hybrid layout to show off its beauty.

3. Ability to follow instructions.

Remember if you intend to participate you MUST sign up (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9773) by 8 Sept 11:59 PM!
Feel free to chat & share your projects in this thread!

No, A4 is absolutely acceptable! After discussion we're going to revise the requirement to 8x8in or larger in order to accommodate all of our international family plus those that do not normally work in 12x12. We want to see your creativity... not limit it!

Hope you'll join us! 8D

Yay!! Count me in!
I'm expecting Baby #3 to join our family some time in the next couple weeks, so if I'm in the hospital, I'm not sure how I'll get the "secret ingredient" part accomplished, but I'm game to try!!!:DD

does typography only include loaded fonts, or does it include design alphas too?

Loaded fonts only to fulfill the typography part of this challenge, please.

There are lots of amazing free font resources out there! Here are three of our faves:

Just finished and uploaded mine. It's A4 size as my printer can't cope with anything larger than that. Also, the description of what I did misses out the fact that I made the photo frames from one of the papers in the kit. Is it possible to go back and edit this as I just can't see how/where I can do this (probably because I need to clean my glasses!)

Thanks again to Toiny for the beautiful kit "Early Morning Delight"

Okay I know I"m tired, and I'm headed to bed... but what exactly do you mean by "(1) creative use of typography (font)" do you mean doing something unexpected with a font? Or just using a creative font with the layout and having some fun with the fonts that can be installed on the computer?

Thanks for the clarification for this tired mind....
Rebecca

Yes, something more unexpected than simply typing a line of text. I don't want to be too specific or set a lot of limits...

The edit link is a bit hard to find. When you're viewing your layout in the gallery look for the photo options link in the upper right. The edit option is hiding in there ;)

Thanks, I thought so but I wanted to make sure my tired mind wasn't making it harder than it should be. :l

Here is mine...I need help with how to present(photo/scan). I put 2 different views in the gallery, one showing a lot more shadows (taken in the sun). I used digital photo and background, printed font on border as well as printed out palm tree, birds and sun and cut them out. I used Glue Dots on the sun and border, glitter on the birds and sun. I cut out the palm leaves and layered them over a ribbon that I creased and added tiny buttons. I used beach glass on the corner of the border

Here is my entry. This was a fun challenge. I am sure this layout will end up as a decoration for my daughter's room, she loves giraffes :)

I got mine done, and have scanned it into my husband's computer, but I can't figure out how to use the new program he got that's supposed to share our files...! It's almost midnight here, and I'm exhausted; I'm hoping you'll accept it if I get it in tomorrow morning my time (Ireland). If not, thanks anyway, I've learned alot from this project, even though I kept my ambitions minimal for my first try!

Okay so I got mine done, just wish I didn't have a new scanner and software that I'm still figuring out, so it is a little askew which doesn't make me the happiest but oh well.

We are homeschooling my girls this year and we are using a program called Five In A Row and I decided to use Angel Hartline's Bookworm kit to make something that I hope will be a memory for each book or a way to announce to the kids what the next book will be. We will see which works out for me and the time factor. :)

http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/hybrid-artist-ct-competition/p82729-harold-fiveinarow-sm.html

I cut a bunch of the digital elements out and tried to fussy cut around them, mounting them on the page. The bookshelf and the worms are to create almost a pocket to put the picture in of my girls so I can (hopefully) change it for each new book. I tried to make my title of the book look like the moon but not sure how well I pulled that off. :\ Oh and I know you might not be able to tell but the tag line says learning on it.

I had fun and that's the part that counts. Although I did learn that I need a few more physical supplies to do exactly what I wanted. :) An excuse to go shopping, even if it is only online.

Well, I'm way past the deadline, but was going to upload, anyway. But now the thing won't upload, and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong! I never have problems uploading, don't know why it isn't working, and am now 39 weeks pregnant, and wishing the baby would come tonight. Good night everyone, and thanks for the fun contest, wish I could have gone on further, but I'll be cheering for the rest of you, anyway.

We'd still love to see your project when you get a chance even though week 1 is over. :) I'll be online this evening if you need help figuring out your upload issue.

And how are you doing with that new little one almost here?! :((
