View Full Version : The Challenge: Jen C Designs

09-12-2011, 01:01 AM
Jen & Christine, are you ready? I'm very, very ready.

Yesterday was 9.11.11 Ten years since the Twin Towers. I think a lot of us, American and non-American alike were caught up in our thoughts, remembering. I know, for me, a fierce pride came up. A pride of country, and I'm not even American.

This got me thinking of the pride I have in being Dutch, and how incredibly excited I am to be going 'home' later this week. And also, as I'm putting together German gifts for my cousins and Oma, how much pride I have in my newest country as well.

I know that Jen just moved a whole ocean away to a new country. I know Christine has also left the land of her birth, half a planet away, for a new country. Today's challenge is to put all your love of country into a kit. This can be the "old" or the "new" but when I look at that preview, I want to feel the love.

There will be no palette, this is up to each of you to create. The theme of your challenge: Love of Country.

The Rules

You must use the theme.
Name your kit.
8-12 papers
20-40 elements.
You may use your CU stash.
There is also $20 waiting for each of you to spend in our CU store. You may spend all, or none, on CU products to help in the creation of this kit.
Please credit the CU designers in your TOU.
You must post the previews here, in the forum, no later than midnight, EST on Saturday, September 17th.
Please upload to your FTP and email me the file names. I will share with the judges.
Your judges this month will be Me, Tracy {Ambowife Designs (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=13_85)} and Mystery Judge. You will be judged on how well you fullfill the criteria, how well you create the palette, the scrapability of your kit, as well as the visual impact of your preview.

Have fun and good luck!

Toiny, you sure know how to throw out a tough... ahhh, I mean 'great' challenge 8D!!!

How are you going, Jen....?

Anyway, can't dawdle, got some designing to do!!!

09-14-2011, 01:18 AM
(((Christine)))... now hurry up! I'm dying over here. Again.

09-14-2011, 01:26 AM
Ha!! Boss lady's cracking the whip 8D!!!

Well, I'll let you in on a little secret...

It took me aaaaaallllll day to do ONE element today - *eeeeek*!! It was the ultimate test of my somewhat unpolished doodling and template-making skills! Now I've just got to color it - and I'll be devastated if I get to the end then don't like it ROFL 8D!!!

09-14-2011, 03:06 AM
sending calmness your way Christine.

09-14-2011, 07:48 AM
Thanks, Barb - is it that obvious that I'm not calm over here...ROFL!?

I got my tricky element finished, and it surprisingly looks like it's supposed to 8D!!!

I know the feeling Christine! I don't know if I've ever agonized over a kit so much! I'm about half way done ... and trying to figure out the balance of everything - it's making me crazy! :) But I'm really loving how it's coming together!

Can't wait to see it Jen!! I'm out all day visiting my mum & dad before they go away on another big camping adventure... I miss them terribly when they go holidaying (how dare they :P!!!) and I want to spend as much time with them today as possible, BUT I know my little brain will be churning and trying to mentally conquer this challenge ROFL!!!!! Oh well, another late night tonight, hee, hee :DD

09-14-2011, 05:07 PM

I'm notorious for changing my mind (it's a Libra thing ;)), and I'm a bit concerned that I may have a last minute urge to switcharoo (so to speak - it'll all make sense soon :DD ROFL)

Okay so it's night here in Aussie Land, where's the candy ladies, you've been teasing us LOL

can't wait to see it, but now I am worried about the judging urgh!!

09-17-2011, 06:36 AM
Okay, I'll go first (I have butterflies in my tummy!!!!)....

Firstly, a bit about why I did what I did ;). I chose Australia as my theme and thought long and hard about a concept. In the end I chose 'Home Is Where The Heart Is', but I couldn't decide on whether to use our flag colors or the very popular 'green & gold', so I incorporated both! My family & I are extremely passionate supporters of our fellow country men & women when it comes to sports - of any kind, both at a national and international level. Just a few mornings ago I found myself jumping around like a crazy woman, with tears in my eyes, after watching Sam Stosur win the US Open Tennis Tournament! That said it all, really 8D!!! I love every inch of this country, and I love to support the people who do us proud. I also love big, bright, bold colors, so I wanted to stay true to that as well ;) Here is what I came up with...

*Eeeeek* I just sat here for 5 minutes daring myself to hit the send button 8D!!!!!

09-17-2011, 07:00 AM
WOW! GORGEOUS, Christine!!! I love that Kangaroo XD

09-17-2011, 07:19 AM
Christine - WOW - that is amazing!!! Really amazing!!

09-17-2011, 07:24 AM
I've called my kit "Best of Britain". As Toiny mentioned, I have recently emigrated to the UK - Northern Ireland specifically. My Dad was born and raised in England - and moved to Canada when he was a teenager. His side of the family has always taken pride in all things British. My mum's side of the family is Scottish. So growing up I've always been exposed to British-isms - whether it's the monarchy, tea, certain expressions, or secretly cheering on the Brits in the Olympics - I've always taken pride in my British roots - and visited the UK several times. Now having made the move I'm excited to raise our family here and just want to embrace all things British! :)

Participating in this challenge has been amazing - I loved the process and the cheering here - what a wonderful friendly group you are here!! <3

So now I present to you, Best of Britain:

09-17-2011, 07:24 AM
