You can find general rules & info here. (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9770)

Week 3 Challenge
Gifts & Goodies

This week it's all about sharing those hybrid skills with your friends & family... we're making gifts & goodies!
Hybrid & printable crafts have become one of the most popular ways to show you care for so many reasons.
They're inexpensive, convenient to make since you can often use supplies you have on hand,
plus it's so easy to personalize each gift to the recipient!

Take a look at some of our favorite hybrid / printable gifts from around the web:

Adorable yet simple! There is inspiration all around and once you start looking,
you'll see hybrid goodness everywhere.

Week 3 Instructions

This week you have a choice!

1. You must create:

a) one (1) hybrid gift
examples: small hostess gift, feel better gift, new to the neighborhood gift, etc.

OR

b) three (3) coordinating hybrid party favors
examples: mini treat bags, little treats decorated suitably for party favors

OR

c) three (3) coordinating small hybrid giftable goodies
examples: candy wrappers, decorated cupcakes, etc.

2. You may use any digital kit currently available in theStudio's Shop (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/store/).

3. SECRET INGREDIENT: None!

4. Upload your completed project to the Hybrid Artist CT Competition Gallery (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/g1303-hybrid-artist-ct-competition.html) no later than 24 Sept 11:59 PM.

5. You must list proper credit for ALL supplies used to complete your project.

Objectives

We're looking for these important hybrid skills:

1. Use a digital product to create something non-scrapbooking.

2. Be creative! We're NOT looking for fancy or elaborate;
we're looking for gifts & goodies people would actually make and give.

3. Ability to photograph your hybrid project to show off its beauty.

Remember if you intend to participate you MUST sign up (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9887) by 22 Sept 11:59 PM!
Feel free to chat & share your projects in this thread!

This type of hybrid project may be new territory for some of you, but don't worry! We're here to answer any questions throughout the week! :)

This is indeed new territory for me! Is this a complete new design of something (not using a template)? Thanks for your help.

Correct! We're not providing a template this week.

We want you to create something with supplies you normally would use and/or most likely have on hand (unless you just ran out LOL). Think about the types of gifts you normally give a teacher or prepare for your kids' parties.

For more inspiration try searching Pinterest (http://pinterest.com/) for things like 'diy gifts' or 'printable gifts'. There's tons of yummy stuff on there! :DD

Could the hybrid gift be something you would create for kids like a game that they could play over and over (I'd hope anyways)? I'm thinking it might fit in the first option best, but I wanted to check. Given the fact things like this are always on my mind homeschooling my kids I wanted to see if it was okay before I began. If you want more gifty then I can go that way instead.

Definitely! Any kind of gift/favor for children is absolutely fine.

Can we use a template that we have gotten someplace else but use a product available in the Studio for the design? Does that make sense... my brain is fuzzy today, sorry.

So can I use a kit I've purchased from here at the Studio, but the template that the gift is based on was from a different designer? Still searching my external hard drive for what I was looking for so I'm not sure right off who the designer is, for all I know there are here! :)

Thanks for the clarification.

Grrrr. Half way through my project I ran out of ink. Hopefully I can get some before Friday!

Yes, we're completely fine w that! There are many fabulous templates out there both from digital scrapbooking and general craft sites. If you're more comfortable using a template it's completely fine... just make sure to use a Studio kit to create it as you've described above. :DD

Oh, I so hate running out of ink, too! :(

So hope you're able to get some more! You actually have through Sat, Sept 24, to complete the challenge this week, too. Hopefully that helps! :DD

I normally need every minute when doing something like this, but this week, I'm going to have to get mine finished by Friday lunchtime as we're away for the weekend. Nothing like adding an extra bit of stress to a working day, eh?!!!!

Oh absolutely! I often use multiple pics to show off different parts and/or views of my more involved projects. Go for it! :))

I thought this task was too daunting at first, but finally got inspired and did something simple and predictable. THanks for looking! (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/hybrid-artist-ct-competition/p83760-homemade-with-love.html)

Finally, here is my inspiration piece: (http://www.digitalscrapbookingstudio.com/gallery/recipe-card-challenge/p78636-beef26amp-3b-snow-peas.html)

I made it a couple of months ago and when I saw it in my files this week, it inspired me!

Woah, those labels and the homemade jams, etc are gorgeous! I am afraid I have been nowhere near as adventurous, sticking to things that I often make for gifts - a gift box (for choccies, smellies and so on), a notebook (so useful to carry around) and a gift card. Very predictable :(.

I've been trying not to comment on specific projects each week until entries are closed, but I just want to take a second to say to all of you :

Don't be so hard on yourselves, ladies!!! You're all being very self critical and you needn't be. We specifically asked you for things you would really make as actual gifts; we weren't expecting you to revolutionize the gift industry in 5 days LOL. We're more interested in your ability to use your supplies in real life than an amazing ability to think up the most creative gift idea ever.

So hang in there! Love your hybrid skills <3 as your loved ones will adore your gifts!

Okay, I finished mine. I made a box of chocolates to use as a gift. I used a reusable craft box, scrapped a page for the top, one for the inside, added some flowers, ribbon and chocolate and now have a fabulous gift my mother is going to love :) On the inside I added little notes that she will see after the chocolate is gone.

I used the kit "Happy Birthday!" by the Studio Design Team!

I made a "Post-it-Note" book with mini pen. (paper for cover is printed on both sides with co-ordinating "paper") I used 2 fabric flowers on the front and tied it with a ribbon. I then put it in an organdy bag and topped it with a bag topper. On the topper, printed on cardstock, I added seed beads and glitter to the boquet and attached the topper to the bag with tape and 2 heart brads. On the cupcake picks, I printed image on cardstock then used EK Success 1 1/4 inch paper shaper and punched out image. I added yellow glitter on the flame and white glitter over the cake. I sandwiched/glued toothpick between 2 squares. (I have never printed my own images for cupcake toppers but I have made them out of stickers back to back with toothpick in middle.) Embelishments, ribbon and glitter from my stash and I'm so happy to be able to use it!

Well I got mine done, it wasn't what I originally wanted to do but I ran out of time this week. Little one got her shots and was not a happy camper (to put it mildly) which killed the end of my week.

So instead I made a little gift bag for my daughter with her favorite coloring tool of choice, Crayola twisted colored pencils, and a notepad that she can walk around the house and color with. I used Nibbles and Skribbles A to Z paper pack and used the colored papers to correspond with her name Lia.

Next time hopefully I'll be able to do what I wanted to in my head. I had wanted to make a bingo game for my kids. I'll still do it, just not this week. :)

We'll post the week 3 winner soon, but I just wanted to tell you ALL how AMAZING your projects turned out! I absolutely love all of the projects... there's a lot of variety but they're all so thoughtful and beautiful. Anyone would be lucky to receive such a lovely gift! <3
