Need tut how to work with a sketch

How do you work with a sketch? Is there a tut somewhere?

Do you just select the Individual piece on the sketch with the majic wand and then fill it in with a kit piece through patterns or how?? I want to do this months sketch challenge but don't quite know how to do the individual piece like the sleigh. I know how to do templates but this is different. I am learning Elements6 .

addendum: I think I got it figured out.I made a selection on the sketch. Then on the opened kit piece I select all, then copy.Back to sketch and paste into selection. But I couldn't figure out if there is a way to make drop shadows to the sketch pieces?? I was able to add shadows to embellishmants added but not to the sketch pieces themselves. I would have liked to add shadows ,esp. to the photos. Is there a way?

If you are talking about a template...then I can help you. LOL

It took me forever to figure out how to use them. If I have a black line that I want to put my paper in, I simply drag the paper over so that is on top on black line then I do

Layer>group with previous

Now remember it is going to attach itself to the previous element so you have to make sur eyou place it in the right spot.

When I do it this way I add the drop shadow to the black line layer and then my paper will have the drop shadow since it is attached.

Am I making one bit of sense?:D

a sketch has no different layers,
so it's not possible to add shadows.
i've read on your blog that you just bought pse6, great decision.
i'm using pse5
if you look in tutorial section here
you'll find a lot of good tuts.
look at misty cato's or ikea goodess

back to the sketch,
i don't use them as accurate as templates.
sure you can use the magic wand
and then go to layerspalette and make a copy of the selection
this way you can get different layers, like a psd template
which you can fill with whatever you want
and can change the order of layers just how you need it.

Sketches are really to provide a design. They aren't necessarily "tools" that can be used in your graphic program, like templates are. You can buy magazines (i.e., Becky Higgin's Sketches volumes) that consist of nothing but sketches, and you can also find sketches in the regular issues of Creating Keepsakes magazine and CK online (as well as on our challenge board, of course). These are for paper OR digital scrappers, because they provide "ideas." Yes, if you have a sketch online you can kind of manipulate it like nighty does, but really - sketches were around long before digi-scrapping became popular.

Hope that helps!

It's been so long since I started this post. I think I was trying to do a sketch like a template.I think I have used a sketch only two times since starting this post. Is a sketch just an example of a page you can create using your own program ? Kinda like seeing a layout in a magazine & trying to scraplift it? But then why does it have layers?? Anyway.... I am sticking to templates.
