Christmas Letter Challenge

"In 1897, Dr. Philip O'Hanlon, a coroner's assistant on Manhattan's Upper West Side, was asked by his then eight-year-old daughter, Virginia O'Hanlon (1889–1971), whether Santa Claus really existed. O'Hanlon suggested she write to The Sun, a prominent New York City newspaper at the time, assuring her that 'If you see it in The Sun, it's so.'" - Wikipedia

As a result, 116 years later, most of us are familiar with Virginia's heartfelt and sincere question, "Please tell me the truth; is there a Santa Claus?" and the famous response of the Sun's editor, Francis Pharcellus Church....

"Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus."

(You may read Virginia's letter and Mr. Church's entire response here.)

This Christmas-in-July Challenge is centered around writing your own letter to Santa. The rules are simple:

You MUST:
1. ...write a letter to Santa. It may be written from any point of view - your own, that of a child, that of a family member, etc.
2. ... use the template graciously created and provided by Toiny
3. ... post your Letter both in this thread and in the Christmas-in-July Gallery

You MAY:

1. ...use any kit that you like
2. ...mix and match kits

But if you:
...use only Christmas kits designed only by Studio designer(s), for your participation and strict compliance your name will be included in a drawing. TWO participants, chosen at random, will receive their own personalized font, created by me especially for them!

Use of the template:
You may:
1. ...rearrange any of the text and/or picture boxes to your liking
2. ...you may delete only one of the 6 main "ingredients" of this template (3 photo spots, 3 text boxes)

Template download information:
If you would like the Template provided with Grouped Layers, you may download here.
If you prefer to work with Ungrouped layers, or your software doesn't recognize Grouped Layers, you may download the Ungrouped Template here:

Here is my letter!
(P.S. Emily did get the puppy and named her Hayley.)

My software only uses PNG so I will have to wing it and not use a template. Thanks this looks like fun.

Re: Christmas Letter Challenge

Karen.....both of the downloads are opening as TIFF files. Do you have PSD files for these?

Re: Christmas Letter Challenge

Victoria32, what a cute letter! I love Jenna’s suggestion for Santa to save the dolls for someone else! So cute. I also like how you replaced one of the photo boxes with Santa. Clever!

Thanks, Kim, for offering to make the PNG files!

Min, I agree with you! It will be fun to read these letter!

Cathy, if you can open a PSD file in your software, you should be able to open a TIFF file. If you are having trouble, please let me know. A PSD file is a Photoshop file, and a TIFF file is universal. The biggest difference between the 2 types of files is how they are saved and the space they take on your computer. You can read a great article/tutorial about this by Manda (Nibbles Skribbles) on theStudio blog: Layered Files: PSD vs. TIFF

Love this challenge... had the perfect photos to use. The letter explains Shalya's point of view.

I didn't use the template as I can't use Tiff format. The photo block was locked and couldn't use it for a clipping mask. So I used it like a scraplift instead. Hope that is okay.

I also couldn't download the template so I just winged it. Hope that's ok. Here's my letter:

What a great tutorial on groups, Toine. Thank you---and thank you Karen for the cutest Christmas kit ever! Thinking cap is on ---writing my letter to Santa in July is FUN! Gives Santa PLENTY of time! :m

Here's mine! It's a modification of The Christmas Elf Poem. We have a Christmas Elf who has been in the family for years. AND he isn't put away after the holidays---here to watch the whole year long for the good deeds and fun times --each one! Our Christmas Elf is named Ninde.
