From the Piggy LOA Contest Week 3:

This is open to everyone. You may participate even if you did not participate last week. Please see the General Rules for contest-wide specifics.

The object of the third round challenge is to focus on the photo. A photo can make or break a layout. You can design the most fantastic page ever, but if your photo's are lacking, they can drag your layout down. Because we want you to focus on your photo(s), you must use one of our free quickpages. We have many tutorials online to help you enhance your photos to their greatest potential.

Rules:
  1. You MUST use one of the quickpages listed below (They are all FREE!)
  2. You MUST enhance your photo in some way and give a quick explanation in your description (ie, credit the tutorial or action you used or a simple breakdown of your process)
  3. You may add to the Quickpage. Just make sure you credit what you've added to it.
  4. You MUST give all credits in your description.
  5. All layouts must be posted by Saturday, April 20 @ 3:00 pm EST

QP - Flutterby Time by Sweet Made

Image - My mom circa 1949

Used Adobe Lightroom to enhance lighting, contrast, and sharpness

Fine tuned in PSE10 - erased blemishes, applied warm color filter; modified sharpness

With this photo I Converted it to B & W - Urban Snapshot
Adjusted the colour for skintone
Enhanced - Brightness/Contrast - Contrast to +36
Adjustd hue/Saturation - Hue +20

I ws a little annoyed that i couldn't get the angle right on the Journalling, it just would not let me adjust it to the angle of the paper

Beautiful Job Robyn

Here is my entry for week 3:

This was an old coloured paper photo which when I scanned it came up really grainy. But rather than trying to eliminate the grainyness I've decided to work with it: I converted photo to B&W in PSE10, then applied the following textures to it: Coffee Shop - Baking With Mom Ethereal Textures, Cream Swirl and texture supplied with Jessica Spragues free tutorial - top 5, Lesson 3. I then applied the Soft Light blending Mode in PSE10. Last but not least I cropped the photo to my liking.

I used the Early Morning Light freebie quickpage by Piggy Scraps Designs plus the bonus element (heart) that came with the QP.

Wow, this is indeed a challenge! Off to think about this a bit and figure out which one I want to use. Are we allowed to download more than one while we play and figure out what to do?

I didn't do a before and after but description tells how my photos were enhanced.
I used the beautiful QP from the Exhale Collaboration kit. The top roses were created using the Duo Tone effect. The bottom photo was taken using my macro feature on my camera along with sharpening and brightness and light features. Font is Dawning of a New Day.

Finished Page:

Before Picture:

For the photo I really only liked Sophia's picture- it's hard to get three kids to take a good picture together! Also, I found the background to be way too busy so I used PSE 10 to enlarge, crop and magic extract to pull out just the portion of the photo I wanted. I then used the Photoshop Action PW Boost by Pioneer Woman to enhance the photo. I then created a blank page colored the same green as the stripes in the QP "My Christmas Carol" by Lynn Griffin. I layered the Photo onto the green page in order to focus on Sophia and not the background, then I added it to the QP. Once I was satisfied with size and placement of Sophia's picture I added Text to the QP, and then used PSE Styles Cherry Cardstock1 Brown (Just So Scrappy) and Style 21 (Booland).

My granddaughter, Lily, a 6 year old wild, free spirt. She has hair spray in every color imaginable and every day decides what color her hair will be for that day!
For my photo I first went to Image-Convert Color Profile-Remove Profile (this is PSE's way of handling the "gamut" problem, since PSE doesn't have a Gamut Warning)
I then duplicated the photo, used a screen blend, and brought opacity down to 40 percent.. The wheat was too light so I used the burn tool on it. I didn't want to darken anything else.
I then played with the levels until I got the look I liked.
I used the brush tool to whiten teeth and put a highlight in each eye as there were none.
Again used the brush, picking up the golden color and red color in her hair to make it more prominent.
Adjusted the skin tone to get rid of the yellow look.
Then used the Dodge Tool at a 35 percent opacity on her nose cheeks and chin to make it look like the sun was hitting her face.

Since I'm just playing along I used a couple of qp's and couldn't decide on one. I used the Snap, Crackle, Pop tut on my photos. Love the little bit of sharpening it gave them.

Amazing photo manipulations from everyone.
Here is mine for this week.
Thank you, Toiny for a fun challenge. And thank you Ladies for the beautiful quick pages.

I manipulated this image.

For this old car photo I thought Flutterby's Time Quick Page was perfect.
I copied and pasted the original image. Mirrored the image.
I duplicated the image layer and reduced the image size to fit the frame on the quick page.
I then duplicated the reduced image layer and cut out the car.
I then used the Smart Photo Fix tool and adjusted levels to enhance the colors of the car and focus the image.
I then returned to the reduced image layer and duplicated it.
I then applied the color brown via Hue and Saturate.
I use Paint Shop Pro 11
(I hope I did this correctly and followed all the instructions)

I used a technique that I found a few weeks ago, but it was not this exact tutorial, however, it is very close and I reviewed the Brighten & Pop Tutorial to learn even more. I duplicated my original layer and changed the blend mode to Screen. I had to duplicate the Screened layer 2 more times until I was able to achieve the look I wanted and then I applied the Layer Style - Black & White Burnt Edges by Snickerdoodle Designs to the photo. When I placed the photo on my layout I enlarged the photo so it was just my daughter & baby belly. I added the heart embellishment that was a freebie in Quickpage packet. I also added the Wordart & the first layer I made it an overlay and then duplicated it until it blended in to the page colors. I believe there were 3 duplicates of each of the words in order to achieve this effect.

My original photo taken during a self-portrait maternity session I did a couple weeks back - all the photos came out really dark, so I had to do quite a bit of photo editing to them:

I used Sweet Made's beautiful template Flutterby Time for my family heritage photo. I used Photoshop 7.0 to edit my original photo. I started with a duplicate layer, then cropped and removed the dust and scratches with the healing brush. Then per Steph's suggestion in her Easy Photo Edit in PS tutorial, I used Levels to give the image more contrast on the RGB channel. I decided to adjust the shadows and highlights manually instead of using auto. Once I got it to the contrast that I was looking for I used Color Balance to adjust the sepia tone. I then further adjusted the sepia color in Channel Mixer under the separate color channels until I was happy with the color tone. When finished I sharpened the image with Unsharp Mask.
