From the Piggy NDC Round 1 Challenge: Moonrise

Hello ALL!

Welcome, welcome, welcome! I am on-the-edge-of-my-seat excited to see what everyone is bringing to this competition. September has always been my favorite part of the year, fall, back-to-school, my birthday, theStudio’s birthday and the annual Next Designer Competition here at theStudio.

A quick reminder, everyone is welcome. The door does not close until Round 1 submissions are in: September 5, 2012 at midnight (est). This is elimination style, exact numbers to be eliminated will be posted after Round 1 submissions are in.

There are no prizes after Round 1.

Round 2 winners will receive an amazing Commercial Grab Bag from theStudio Design Team:

Round 3 winners will receive one year (12) of theStudio’s Monthly Cu Grab Bag. And the winner will receive a Silhouette CAMEO as well as a Designer Contract:

Your Round 1 Challenge is to create a mini kit, all using the same palette and theme. This year we again have a common theme throughout all four rounds: the moon.

Round 1 Theme: Moonrise

Inspiration:

  • Links must be available until September 9, 2012. It is appreciated if they are available until October 1, 2012.
You may use commercial use/designer resource products in the creation of your mini-kit. You may use more than one photo-editing/vector program to create your kit. You may use plug-ins.

Please do not break any copyright laws in this competition--you will be disqualified if you do. Do give credit, as required, to any Commercial Use products you use.

All previews must be posted in the Next Designer Contest 2012Gallery. Please post your download links there as well. You may use any outside host including 4shared/rapidshare/boxnet etc. You must use ZIP files only. Do not use RAR. You may blog all you like about the contest.

WOW!! I am in the midst of taking designer lessons (just for my own pleasure) but after reading all the above info, I realize how green I am!!! There are words I never heard before!!!
The best of luck for all who are going for this. I have the highest respect for all designers and the hours and hard work they put into their kits.

Nancy, take advantage of this opportunity and ask away. I know what the words mean, and can define as needed! Even if you're not playing, you can learn something!

Good luck to all! I can't wait to see your beautiful designs!

Talking Re: NDC Round 1 Challenge: Moonrise

My only question...

Are we allowed to use any greenery or no?

OK, Mandak, here are a few questions
What does this mean: "You must use ZIP files only. Do not use RAR" I know what ZIP is but what is RAR?
My dear friend, Snickerdoodle, explaned Vector to me, but still not grasping it. What is a photo-editing Vector program?
What does 72dpi mean?

You may not use greenery that is green. You may certainly recolor greenery to match the palette. I deliberately left out the color green to challenge you

Nancy, to answer a few ??

RAR - there is another zipping program out there called winRAR, it uses the extension .rar , if you don't own this program, you cannot unzip .rar files. ZIP files are universal and everyone can access, hence the reason we want ZIP make sense?

Adobe Illustrator is an example of a Vector Program, I can't really explain what a vector is, I know how to use them and what programs to use with them, but I'm unsure of the exact definition, so maybe someone can explain that a little better

72dpi - this is the image resolution. 72 dots per inch is the standard web resolution for images, where as 300 dots per inch is the standard for print quality images. Most digital kits are designed at 300dpi for optimal printing, however, previews have to be resized down to 72dpi for posting on the web, ie our gallery...
