January 2012 Theme - Journals

This time of year as many of us are making new year resolutions, one of my many goals is to create a gratitude journal. I love reading personal histories or journals of my ancestors, yet I, myself, am HORRIBLE at writing anything down about me or my life. So one of my new year resolutions is to write(or type) in a journal several times a week or more.

So for this challenge in order to bring more heritage to it, let's scrap a page about anyone who you have a brief journal entry or personal history for. It's up to you if you include pictures or not and how long your journal is. I've included a layout I did almost two years ago of my Great grandfather's journal entry to get us going. Then I'll try to find something new to scrap by the end of this challenge with all of you

Shelly, Where did you find the old /antique advertisements for Yellowstone? Is there actually a site were you can download copies of old railroad/vacation spot advertisements? I need to find some place where I can get copies of these kinds of things for every decade really.

I can't remember where I got those... I just google stuff mostly and make sure I'm good to copy it. It's all for my own personal layouts that just go in my books so I assume it's fine to copy some of the old stuff. Sorry I don't have a specific website. If I find some, I'll definitely pass them along next time

Welcome back! This looks like a fun challenge and I'm putting my thinking cap on!
I'm back. I found a note attached to my parents marriage license 1916 requesting the 'Gudge' give them a license. My mother told me she was married at age 17 - BUT she was only 16! My father's sister and husband went with them as witnesses.

I am blessed to have many diaries that belonged to my mother. I haven't begun to read them all and actually just read this portion today, although I have always known about the wonderful Graduation Trip gift that my mom's Aunt and Uncle from Yakima, Washington gave to her when she was 19 and had just graduated from high school in central Montana. I also have postcards that she bought on the trip and will scan those for a companion page. Thanks for the challenge to give me the inspiration to find this.

This was a great experience! I have the original letters. They are kept with the chest.

Yes! I've had company, my mom, and then Mom stayed here with our 3 children while my husband and I left town for a quick getaway. A surprise for me so unexpected. Now we're back and I will be posting the Heritage challenge tomorrow for February. I'll make sure and put a link here, too, just in case Thanks for asking!

Sorry about that! I couldn't find the pictures I wanted to go with my layout and so it didn't get posted sooner. I really want to do these monthly though so we'll try harder to get it closer to the start of the month
