Default 1st day of the Christmas calendar challenge

Welcome to "The 12 days of doing your Christmas calendar presents early this year"

This is the perfect challenge for you if you want to make your own calendar for next year - to give as presents or to keep for yourselves. By the end of the month you will have your calendar ready to print with lots of time to spare until Christmas

Here are the rules:

For the next 12 days I will give you a calendar template for one month. You will add pictures, papers, embellishments, change colors, fonts ... make it your own.
When you're done, post your calendar in the Christmas in July calendar challenge gallery and here in this thread, so I can pm you with the next download link.

Don't worry if you don't have time to work on this challenge on one of the days, just post when you're done and I will help you to catch up - until July 31st. That's the deadline.

Everybody who has finished all 12 months by then will get a bonus download: Templates for the months August - December 2013 so you can use your new calendars right away.

Now - are you curious about the "look" of the calendars? Let me tell you, picking a "type" of calendar was the hardest part in getting ready for this, lol. But since I couldn't really decide on the best size and format of the calendar, I narrowed it down to three different ones and the choice is yours:

  1. one month on a horizontal letter/a4 size paper - not much room for pictures on that one, but you could add a second page on top of it
  2. one month on a vertical letter/a4 size paper - smaller, but calendar part and pictures will fit on one page
  3. a list style calendar with columns for the different family members, letter/a4 size again

As you see I decided against a square format because of the easier printing. All calendars are provided in US (letter format, week starting on Sunday) and EU (A4 format, week starting on Monday) styles. File formats include .psd, .tif and separate .png layers.

Please let me know if you run into difficulties using them in your graphic software, I will try to help if I can.

Here are your download links for January:

***Sorry, download links have expired, but you can find the calendars in my store now***

Tomorrow I will pm the links for February to those who posted their page in the gallery and this thread. Since I will be gone and without internet access all day tomorrow, please, be patient, the links might get sent out late, but they will be sent.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have about the proceedings.

Most of all: HAVE FUN!

I have a question, does it have to be a Digital Scrapbooking Studio kit or can it be any kit used in the challenge. Thank you for all you do and for hosting a great challenge.

You may use any kit you like - but I would love seeing Studio kits used

LOL - I so know what you mean ...

Here the 24 th would be even "later", because our main Christmas festivities are on Christmas Eve, lol

Hi Nana! Welcome to theStudio!

Can you let us know which file you are having a problem with and weather you are opening through File>Open or dragging it into your program? I use PSE 5 and was able to open all PSD's and Tiff's with no problem, so I'm hoping if we have more information we can figure out why it's giving you a hassle

OOPS, I just noticed I put 2013 instead of 2014!!! I can't think that far ahead!!! Off to correct it!

I'm so excited about this challenge - such a great idea Min. Thanks so much for hosting. Can't believe that I will actually get my calendar done well in advance! lol
I know there is a bit of a gap in the center of the page but that is where I will join the two 11 x 8.5 pages with a bind-it machine. (Calendar is 11x17 but I print them out (or have them printed) on separate 11 x 8.5sheets)
I will also be adding lots more personal info before I finish and print

I used the January Mega and FB Freebie 'Winter Ice'.

Very strange - my PSE7 wouldn't open the ...calendartemps_JanUS. 1st attempt gave me a message that the file was too large, subsequent attempts said program error (no matter how I tried to open it). The "small" calendar took 5 minutes to update the fonts and I stopped b/c I really don't want to use this one. The exact same thing happens when I try to open the Tif files!

PNG files open fine. I have no problems opening other files/templates! I'm using Windows 7.
