Well, Toiny, my question would be----who originally defined bokeh and who first decided what is good and what is bad, which means, that it was one person's opinion. If bokeh is suppose to be round, then why are there instructions out there on how to make heart shape bokeh and snowflake shape bokeh. The round or hex is simply your camera eye, something you have no control over. So-----I'm with you!! If I have a photo with octagon or hex and I like it, then that's all that matters. (Climbing very carefully off my soap box.)

I didn't think I could do this contest because I had no idea how to do bokeh. But when I looked through my photos, I actually have a number of them. I like this one because of the soft colors from the flowers in the background. I used an ordinary camera and didn't do any editing.

I am not a fan of spiders, but that is an incredibly beautiful photo. I really love the contrast between the spider & the soft flowers in the back.

I think my head just exploded. So much information and back and forth. It's been a great couple of pages to read through and see these shots!

I had a few to choose from, but my grandson was too cute not to show off.
The photo was cropped in Photoshop. No other changes made.

Here is a photo I took. It's close [I think]. From the camera and I changed RAW to jpeg and lightened a bit. That's it.

but I like the photo anyhow and I achieved the effect I was looking for when I took it.
camera- Canon EOS 7D
07/19/13
Shutter 1/320
ISO 250
Aperture 5.6
Focal 55
lens - 18-55

**I'm trying some on other photos using a bokeh scrip that I am testing. At present, not happy with the results and I will fiddle some more.

Thanks Norma. That was in Key West near the unit we stayed.

After fiddling with the script.
still from the keys. this one on Bahia Honda. I like the little green critter on the flower.

Here's my submission. Love the challenge, it got me going out and trying out my new-to-me lens!

New here, the photography challenge sounded interesting and I'm trying to learn to take better photos. And of course who can resist the prizes...

Here's my shot.

I was sitting on my front porch yesterday and took this with my point and shoot. It has a Av setting, where I pick the aperture and it does the rest. The photo is straight from the camera.

Cannon PowerShot SX260 HS

IZSO 160

From the Piggy Re: Photography Contest Week 1

I'm amazed at some of the pictures you can take with a point & shoot. Fabulous bokeh in the background. Welcome!

After seeing all these great pictures I've decided that I need a photography class so I can learn how to work my camera without it being on auto. Any chance of a class being put together to teach us how to use our cameras? hint hint

Here's my entry for Week 1. This shot was 'right from the camera' (p&s); no adjustments made.

Hey gals! Y'all have some great photos! I tried to post, but it's still not showing (I guess I haven't posted enough elsewhere, I believe it said it was being moderated)... I didn't realize that would be such a big issue. I pop in from time to time but never registered until today, I really wanted to participate hopefully it will show up before midnight...
