I signed up for a skydrive account a few years ago. I am pretty sure it was mentioned in the forum here back at the time as an alternative to 4shared and mediafire. Back then you only needed as msn or hotmail email to create a skydrive account. Not sure if that has changed. I've been using it the past 2 years or so for freebies and it's been working great even with a high volume of downloads.

I upload my files right to my blog through a file server plug in. The only time I have issues is when a hacker purposely tries to shut me down and my server blocks all access to the blog until I check in. Honestly, my bestie is a web designer, so she manages my blog for me and takes care of all computer related issues. I am quite sure she is the one that keeps things going smoothly!

I use a personal server.
I bought a dedicated server with the highest possible throughput, a powerful processor and plenty of space. I bought a server at OVH.pl
This is a Polish company whose servers physically standing in France (mine too) and all you need to do on it, you do remotely.

I think that if someone is interested in such a solution - certainly in the United States or any other country, there are companies that offer these opportunities.
Hi Mamrotka,

No, sweetie, I wasn't writing about you at all! The designer to whom I was referring is SugarButt. Previously, when I clicked on the link to her blogsite, it would come right up. However, when I clicked on it last week via an old Hotmail message, I wasn't able to access her site. Then I remembered that she had sent out a message that her schooling and other commitments were taking up a lot of her time, so she was making her site private. At least, this is the gist of what I remember, and my memory just ain't what it used to be.

To all who are responding to my initial post, thank you so much for the interesting and exciting discussion! I had no idea that my message would provoke such a response. I'm also very happy to learn about all the alternative file-sharing sites and that I'm not the only one who has issues with the site-that-shall-remain-nameless (a la Harry Potter style). LOL!

I just started using Copy. I've not had any trouble with it and you can get l5G free. if I have copied the right link you can get an extra 5G just for signing up with just this link. It's worth a try!

It is sad when it is difficult to DL. However being one who has been hit with many issues from some of the free services, I remain wary. If it does not work easily, I just smile, nod and move on.
I prefer box.
Not fond of media fire
And it seems 4 shared has changed up its thing again. For a while they asked for a PW. Now it seems it is back to confusion tricking the one DL to extra stuff on their computer.
and yes , the one by JMDT was very nice.

Shoot I do this for a living and don't pay for my dropbox. It's getting close though...I will be looking into this SkyDrive thing though. I want nothing more then to make life easy for those who download TUF stuff and thankfully I haven't had a problem with dropbox yet!!! Yet, keyword lol I do have my own ftp/domain but that can eat up my bandwidth FAST! Learned that the hard way...

I very much appreciate all you designers who offer us freebies!!! I have had a few issues downloading this month. Then I read the comments and see they have already set up an alternate link--which so far works!! I also even had one designer pm me with the status and profusely appologized.
Yes there are some frustrations. Overall, I think you all are being as responsive as you possibly can. I very much appreciate that!!!!!
And THANK YOU for sharing your work with us!!

Hi there mskinsey,
I knew exactly who you were speaking of when you first mentioned that her blog was private now. I was just looking for Sugarbutt Designs a few days ago and found out she is moving to a free blog now and has temporarily closed down her old blog. You can reach her at
Professional Scrap Designs and her new blog will be www.sugarbuttdesigns.blogspot.com. In the mean time you can follow her at Facebook I couldn't find her at first so I sent her a FB mail message. Her FB name is Sugarbutt Johnson. She will be returning soon! Kristine

By the way great topic! I have a work around for Media-Fire and Media-Share by first downloading and then pressing save when my windows download button appears. I close their download file page immediately so no additional popup windows come through. Then I go and close the windows that came in behind my internet pages. grrrr! Then I go and get rid of what corrupts things. Go to - Tools > Internet options> Browsing history and delete all of the temporary internet files and website data and cookies at minimum. Otherwise what ever it is that Media-fire and Media-share put on our computers cancel my downloads mid stream. If I clean after downloading everything is back to normal again. So frustrating! I really just wish everyone would stop using them! I to am a little sad when seeing a 4Shared file to download because I am less likely to download them from past experience but I am liking them a little better than the Media-sites lately! Thank you for all of the information here everyone!

I must be doing something right with mediafire then as I have never seen a pop up, advert or trojan warning. I have an account (free) with them, but not always signed in. I use Firefox with customized privacy settings to have no third party cookies (can always tell if they are needed), no pop ups, keep until firefox closes and I often delete cookies myself by scrolling through them. I use AdBlockPlus, Better Privacy and Do Not Track as plugins/extensions. I have the paid for versions of AVG internet security and Malwarebytes both running at the same time, occasionally they both or one will prevent access to malicious sites, outgoing attempts etc, but that is all.

I have a free account with 4shared, but only use them if desperate as I have to do all sorts of cache and cookie clearing to get the download to show.

No problems with box, skydrive (very slow though for me), dropbox or any other of the new ones like 2share(?) get etc. It may be that any problems are due to browser/security settings? It seems different problems for different people. If 2 download options are offered, that does help a lot.

Oh and krihar I too have my downloads set to ask me each time where to save as I use different EHD's for things. Wonder if that is why others maybe have problems as well? I click on save, navigate where I want and once the download is on it's way (I use the firefox extension/plugin whatever download status bar which shows porgress at the bottom of my screen) I close the download page.

Thanks to all the designers for their downloads though it is appreciated and I know how frustrating DL problems are.

I honestly had no idea this could or would happen. I'm really sorry & I'm trying my best to rectify the situation.

Certainly if at any point I become "professional" (actually trying to sell a kit) -- I would certainly be sure to have a paid download account that would guarantee that all my customers would have access.

But until that day, it just would be silly of me to PAY for a yearly contract for bandwidth just to be able to offer a freebie in challenge or contest every few months.

Sorry if I don't meet your criteria for a professional designer, but then I never claimed to be one. I'm just in it for the fun.

Ok, back to my corner now.

PS I *AM* grateful for this thread because I honestly had no idea there was going to be a problem with Dropbox & then had no idea where else to go except for Mediafire that everyone loves to hate (I've never had problems with them myself). Thanks to suggestions, I'm currently uploading to SendSpace, hope that will work, but they are soooooooo slow on the uploading...
Stuff happens and no body expects anyone to know what may or may not happen. I love you stuff and am in no way upset about any problems. Thank you for trying to correct it. That is all anyone could expect. So glad you came to join in.
