Back ground in photo

I have noticed some scrappys with kids that dont have back ground and it looks good in a scrappy..

I was wondering ...

How do you get rid of a back ground and just keep the object you want to scrappy ?

Here's a good tutorial. Instead of making the background fuzzy, just delete it.
