October Heritage Challenge

Hey Gals Hope you all managed to snag all the beautiful freebies around SAS during the Birthday Bash! There were some gorgeous kits put out by the contestants for the designer challenge, especially during week 3 when the theme was Heritage/Vintage kits.

Since lots of you have left comments about working with actual documents for a heritage challenge, we are going to try something different this month.

Your layouts must contain a "Federal Census" document. You may use this document as a whole document or you may isolate a portion of it to use.

If you go to Orange County, VA Library and then click on Heritage Quest Genealogy Online, this will allow you to search several census years. (This link will only cover the USA.)

So here is a recap of the rules:

1) You must use a Federal Census document or part of one in your layout.

2) You must use a kit by a SAS designer, be it from the boutique or a freebie. You may also use any of the kits designed for the Next Sas-y Lady Contest during Sept.

3) Post your layout in the Heritage Gallery between now and Oct. 31st.

4) For your participation, you will receive this beautiful posting bonus desined by CanDesigns:



5) At the end of the challenge a poll will be posted for the SAS members to choose the winning layout. The winner will be given a $5 certificate for the SAS Boutique.

Here is my LO for the challenge. I couldn't get it to go in Heritage Gallery, it kept saying No Photos in that gallery. I put it in the Members Gallery too and it did ok. here is link:

Hi Berny I hope you don't mind, I copied your Layout over to Heritage LO of the month. The gallery is being a little touchy at the moment, but we got it there. Thanks for taking the challenge! I left some love in the gallery.

Ok, since this was my idea to scrap records, I felt I HAD to do this challenge. It had nothing at ALL to do with the fact that I LOVE the Heritage challenge. LOL! Just kidding. But I was one of the ones who suggested this topic because I have so many people that all I have is their census records, no pics of them. So thanks, Jan for doing this one. I hope we get lots of layouts for this that I can scraplift! LOL! Here's my try:

This looks like a great challenge and the LOs done so far are really interesting to look at.

Unfortunately, I don't have U.S. ancestors so I won't be able to particpate in this challenge.

Maybe the next one.

If your ancestors were born and/or died in Canada you can go to www.ancestry.ca and use its 14 day free trial. Good luck!

Rose, this link is only good for the 1881 Cenus but it does cover 1880 US, 1881 British Isles and 1881 Canadian. Hope it will help. It is an LDS site and there is no charge to search.

Thanks for trying to help Jan but I've had no luck searching that link. Well, I did find something that MIGHT be my great grandfather but the file it lets you download is a .GED. I'm unable to open it to check it out.

I'll just wait and see what you have for next month but thanks again.

For those of you who would like to just have a copy of a census page to work into your lo - the usgenweb census project has images available for several states/localities. I donated a cd of 1860 Henderson Co Illinois to this archive - http://www.usgwarchives.net/il/henderson/census/1860/

Also - please check with your local library here in the states - many of them have online access to Heritage Quest - sometimes even at home if you have a library card.

Thanks for sending me to Heritage Quest - I spent a lot of time looking for my mom's side of the family - still working on that - but I found my grandparents and my dad on my first inquiry - and fortunately I even had the pictures to go with it!
