Question white bkgrd on PSE 4 pages I save

Hello all,

I have a question:
I keep trying to save files I've made (elements--the first ones I've tried to make!) on Photoshop Elements 4. They have transparent backgrounds but when I save them PS4 keeps automatically giving them white backgrounds. How do I stop that? It does it to both psd and jpg files.

TIA!

Try doing a "save as" with a .png. That should keep your transparency.

THANK YOU! It worked. (But, to show how computer-stupid I am, I had already tried saving it as a .png before posting this but when I went to open the file, PSE popped up a message saying it was an unknown file type. Then, after reading your message, I tried again and it worked. Weird, huh? Maybe my computer just needed to "read" what you wrote. )
