Welcome to the Freestyle Challenge!
![]() I'm so excited to host this challenge - I want to coax you out of your comfort zone and dare you to do some things a little different. And although I'm a great fan of templates, sketches and quickpages - this is not the right challenge to use them... ![]() This month's challenge is about papers. Papers are actually a lot more than just a background to put your pictures and elements on (although sometimes it's great to use them exactly like that, LOL). You can create your own backgrounds by using different papers (eg as stripes, curves etc), cut out shapes to use as embellishments or mats. Layer them on top of each other and play with the blending modes, change the hue or recolor them completely. Your challenge this month - should you choose to accept it - is to create a layout using only your pictures and (at least) 10 different papers. You may use a paper more than once but there must be 10 different ones used (if you recolor a paper it counts as a new one). For those of you who enjoy an extra challenge here are two options: 1. use only papers of one color (but different hues) OR 2. use one paper in each of these colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Turquoise/Aqua, Blue, Violet, Pink, Black, White. Upload your layout to the Freestyle Challenge Gallery, come back here and leave a link to it! I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Thanks for the interesting challenge.
Do you need to be able to see each of the 10 papers on the LO? I often use 2 or more papers in a blend mode to get the color and texture/pattern I want, and then only one is visible in the final LO |

Ok, not sure I really like mine, but it was fun. You can't 'see' all the papers, but there are 11 total. Here ya go:

I've been wanting to do a quilt type layout using one of the patterns in a sketchbook left to me by my grandmother. The quilt block pattern I used was labeled "Arizona" which is probably why I love it. This challenge seemed perfect for my idea. It was such fun to make. Not sure about the basket ppr for the bg-kinda loses the quilt effect !?! But I like the result.

Okay, so here I am again. This has been particularly challenging for me, so I keep on trying... Couldn't resist these pics of the view from our windows, since I was already on a theme. I think I like this one better than her "sister" from yesterday. Thanks for all the encouragement!

Such a fun idea for a challenge ~ here's a link to my layout "Believe in Dreams".
P.S. When I first read the instructions, I focused in on using 10 papers -- I guess I wasn't supposed to use any elements? Sorry if I messed that up! : ( Last edited by Maurine Stettler; 03-24-2010 at 07:52 AM. |
