I've tried for 3 hours in PS and PSE8 to get the effect you had with no success. This was what I ended up with and it was on a white bg but came in black. I'll keep trying. lol

that happened with my 1st WA upload (also white background) -- it's black in the preview, but when you click on it to view, it does show white. i'm not sure why it does that.

Sure the fonts I used were

CK Heritage for the cursive font and
Elephants in Cherry Trees for the big one. The big one is a free font you can get HERE

I'll ask manda how she did it, she uses PSE7 I think! Sorry your having trouble!

Feel free to let me know what you're doing step by step and I'll see if I can help! I use PSE6 but most stuff translates I'm sure!

I checked in-app help, youTube vids, online Q&A forum, downloaded the manual I didn't know existed, etc, and I don't seem to be doing anything wrong, but nonetheless, my paint tools are all loaded with my background paper somehow. Don't know how I did it, and I am unable to change foreground/background colors. *sigh* I emailed for support, so hopefully they'll come to the rescue.
In the meantime, I have conquered the cutout part of the challenge, and am really pleased - the words do look like they're cut out of the same piece of paper!

Yesssss!
After grouching about it to my Hunny, he must have gone and prayed for me! I was somehow able to select generic grey foreground (I have no idea what I possibly did differently) and burn the edge of my letters, and it was way easy! Alright!!! Now for - the photo!

TA DAAA! I did it! Although I did some steps a bit differently, your tutorial was great! I never would have had a clue how to do any of these effects without it. I tried to achieve the same cutout look that you were teaching us, but I did notice shrinking my word overlay gave a bit of boxy dimension to my DaTe, and couldn't resist...!

Here is my page for this month. Thanks for taking over the challenge this month. I have never used the stroke for outlining or the burn tool. So, I learned two new tecniques this month. Thanks.
