Hi All,
I’m new to this. I’ve never hosted a challenge before, but I AM excited about genealogy, and can’t wait to see what everybody comes up with. The challenge I have in mind is a little different from what I’ve seen sofar, so bear with me, and let me know if you NEVER want to do this again. ![]() Here it goes. You have people in your tree, but what was everyday life like for them? Maybe you know, maybe you don’t, maybe you never thought about it. Well…… you’re going to have to ![]() Here’s the rules: - HAVE FUN DOING THIS!! - The time frame is between 1900 and 1910 Pick something in that era that you want to know about (what kind of cars were used, what kind of recipes were being used, what were the clothes like, what they did for a living, what kind of houses were built…. You get the idea, but don’t rule out other things, like what was proper, what made the news, what were the “rules” people lived by at that time…... Or you can put a whole bunch of stuff together, like bread was 2 pennies, but a weeks salary was 5 dollars… - Research about this. (this is where the fun starts, right?) For your Layout: Include a picture of an ancestor or one of the whole family, if you have one. If you don’t have a picture, give a little information about them (date of birth, marriage, spouse, children, death date/cause, jobs, what they were like, if you know, what they did for “fun” etc) Include your findings, and if you can, include a picture of what you found out. (the place they worked, their car/bike, house, things they used etc) Just let us know where you found it, so if anybody needs something similar for our “tree” we can find it. When you post your lay-out, and you found good information sources, (or used one you already had) please put them in your description….. We’ll all benefit. Can’t wait to see what you come up with, and what we’ll find out about life between 1900 and 1910. |

I can do this one - My Great Great Grandfather spent a few days in jail for bootlegging in 1904 he made the headlines in the local newspaper for this act, I have a huge family photo that includes him.

That is fabulous, Jean Ann! (Both the story and the LO.)
I don't really know anything about my family from this time so this will be all research for me and I just don't have the time for it this month. The funny thing is I just did a LO with pictures from 1905 before the time period was picked!!! Good luck to everyone. I can't wait to see the results. |

LOL! We could end up being distant relations because my Dad was born in MI. I'll have to see if my Aunt who is the Cole family historian, knows of an Aura.

Oh I love this challenge, I just may be able to do it too .... do the pictures have to be photos from us or can they be googled photos? I have no ancestral photos but may be able to get one off google, lol (good old google) ... must check the dates though

Hold on to it..... there's more challenges coming
![]() Yes it's ok to use Google pictures. (If they're not from relatives, just let us know) Everybody has relatives that lived around this timeframe and the objective is to find out daily stuff, so just using name and vitals is fine if you don't have pictures of that particular person. I better get started on mine, otherwise I'm the only one that's not turning in anything.

Thanks! I'll see what I can dig up to add to it. Maybe I'll send an e-mail to the Aunt I got my pictures from to see if she knows anything about the family from that time period.

Victoria, cool pictures and LO!
Thanks for sharing. With Russian ancestors, your findings will be very interesting because of the differences and at the same time so many similarities with others!
