Okay I think I got carried away, with the MCP All In The Details Actions LOL
I used Silver Lining B & W and then Flashlight to lighten a few of the darker areas.

You crack me up!!! I like the first one here best - to me, the tone and the contrast works best in that one

I too love BW and have always used the BW default. I have Creative Memories Stroybook 3 and had to do a little research. However, I think I managed and love the additional changes that I could make after setting the photo to BW! Thanks for "pushing" me to do more!!

From the Piggy Re: February Photography Challenge - Black & White

I finally got to play! I've had a hard time getting both girls to look good in this picture. Tess is a little paler and her side of the photo is more exposed.

I used Pioneer Woman's B&W Beauty action. It over-exposed Tess to the point of washing her out, but Melina looks beautiful! So I selected Tess, feathered the selection and cut & pasted her back in. Then added a level adjustment (more black, less white) so that she wasn't quite as washed out.

I think it's pretty good, but boy would I like perfect!

Awesome challenge Christine!!! I'm totally fascinated with photography.

Smooches,

T

Oh WOW!! Tracy & Toiny - I'm IMPRESSED!!! Tracy - that result is amazing! We'll cover more on 'selective colouring' in the coming months - it's a technique I love to use

Toiny, I love that you took this one step further and treated each subject separately! The result is truly stunning! Another technique that would come in handy in this situation would be 'Painting with Light' or 'Painting with Dark' (if you use Photoshop). It's great for 'spot adjustments' within your image. Also duplicating the layer, treating them separately according to the result you want for each subject, then softly erasing the top layer with a soft brush to expose the second subject would probably work nicely. Both girls in the photo are absolutely stunning - that smattering of freckles and those clear beautiful eyes - your photo captured them perfectly !!! I must go play some more...
