Week 1: Scrap a Hero

I added a LO of my Aunt. She is a cancer survivor and is definately a hero. Her determination to beat it and her attitude during treatment and the lingering side effects are what make her a true hero.

I first thought I wouldn't be able to do a layout because I just couldn't remember anyone in the military. Then I remembered. When I went through my mother's things, I found all the old letters from my uncles they wrote home during their days serving in WWII. My grandmother had kept them, and when she died, my mother kept them. Now that she has died, I have them along with a lot of other old papers. What a treasure trove for me. Along with photos of my uncles, I scanned in letters and envelopes and used them in a two page layout. Unfortunately, because it is double width, it doesn't show too well as it is showing small. (Hehe, I guess the gallery limits don't permit a 1200x600 px LO to show at full width and I didn't want to cut it in two.) So here is Letters from the Front. The letter I scanned and used was written from France, one of the countries where my uncle Willard was stationed. Uncle Elmer was stationed in the Pacific where he flew bombers. Both survived the war and lived into their 80's.

Oh, ladies - what amazing LO's so far! Some are really quite emotional, and some are so inspirational. Here is mine. My Father-in-law is my son's hero, and they marched together this year in the Anzac Parade. Joey has a miniature set of Poppy's medals which he takes so much pride in wearing. Poppy has only recently begun to 'remember', or even acknowledge, his time in the military. He never wanted to talk about it before, and I'm assuming he had some horrific experiences. I'm hoping one day he can share his stories (good or bad) with me so they can be recorded for the sake of our family's history. I think having a grandson to share these remembrance days with has really helped

I think the challenge in this one for me was to decide WHICH hero to scrap. Our family has fought in every war involving America since before there WAS America. Chose this one because Uncle Don is not doing well. Want to send it to him.

Still thinking on how to get this going. No army men (or women for that matter) in my family. But I do have a little hero nearby, he is yelling at me right now, little fellow. I did something he doesn't like, but hee..... he may be my hero, I'm his mother LOL, so I'm the boss!!

Here's mine- My Dad. I used Skrapper Digital's Black Label Classics- Jan to make the page.The black and white photos are over 60 years old as is the hand colored one, but they are starting to degrade. There are some really great pages here!
