I to agree that embossed papers are solids for it is giving texture. but then again there are some embossed papers that could be considered pattern. So what would you consider a paper like this one, I would think pattern.

In my opinion, embossed papers are solids... embossing, to me, is more like adding texture, rather than a pattern... it's a soft effect, I personally use them like solids...

Remember to use your levels adjustment when needed Toiny gave me that tip last year, it's invaluable for working with pale colors!

What do you mean by this Kim? If I change the levels doesn't it change the color? (I use PSE7)

I've moved your layouts to a gallery just for layouts created using the contest kits from round 1, it can get a bit hard to see the kits with all the extra stuff, so a gallery just for the pages might make it easier for the designers and admin to see all the kits when it comes time to vote.

BTW, since Kaklei did it: should we do seperate previews for papers and elements, or is it enough to make 1 preview for the kit.

1 Preview is enough unless it's a requirement in that round. It's easier to see all the kits if everyone just has one preview in my opinion, but feel free to add extra previews, maybe in the layout gallery

I would definately consider that a pattern.... its too busy for me to be a plain paper. Though I do agree that most embossing would be a plain paper... example a line around the outside, a flourish embossed, etc... not an all over pattern.

Thanks for the great challenge Toiny... I have to get through this other contest and then I will start on this one.... and am so glad you gave us inspiration because I always see pastels as baby and we all know there are enough of that.

hmm maybe Kim means changing the levels or curves on your overlay to make them lighter.
If you drag the line in the curves palette up it will lighten the layer and if you drag it down it will darken the layer.
Have a play and see what you think Diane

woops you might not have curves in elements, but try dragging the right handle back towards the left on an overlay layer to see how that helps and change blend modes to help too. As long as it's light and in the same hue you should be fine as far as keeping in the palette goes
