Second Chance Design Contest 2011

This is for everyone who chooses to move on as part of our Second Chance Challenge group. I will also accept, this week only, any participants who missed the opportunity to participate in the NDC 2011.

This is the exact same challenge as all our NDC contestants are being given.

The first round gave you a very difficult palette to work with, a very difficult kit to preview. This round that part is easier. You are being given a preview template, and you must use this preview template to preview your kit.

Layered TIFF file

You are also being given a name “Summer Afternoon”, which you must use as your kit name & title. Summer afternoon is also your kit theme. However, the palette is completely up to you! Let us see how a good palette makes the kit.


The preview template does not include a template for the kit title, part of your challenge is to make a fantabulous, eye-catching kit title. I have to say, with every kit I make this is always one of my biggest challenge.


Round 2 Rules

We are stepping it up a notch, despite being given a preview template, you are doing more this round:

• Your kit must be named: “Summer Afternoon”
• Your title must stand out
• You must use the provided preview template
• Create exactly 6 papers, either jpg or png
• Create 20 elements
  • Include at least 1 cluster
  • The cluster does not have to be unique
• Include a terms of use (TOU) within your zip file(s).
• The preview must be 600X600px, 72dpi, and a jpg file. Please post only one preview.
• The preview must include all papers, elements, kit name/title and your logo.
• Previews must be posted in the Annual Next Designer Contest Gallery: Second Chance 2011: Round 2due September 12, 2011 by 23:59 EST. Include your download links with your preview in the gallery.
  Links must be available until September 13, 2011. It is appreciated if they are available until October 1, 2011.
  

You may use commercial use/designer resource products in the creation of your mini-kit. You may use more than one photo-editing/vector program to create your kit. You may use plug-ins.

Please do not break any copyright laws in this competition--you will be disqualified if you do. Do give credit, as required, to any Commercial Use products you use.

All previews must be posted in the SC2011 Gallery: Second Chance 2011: Round 2.Please post your download links there as well. You may use any outside host including 4shared/rapidshare/boxnet etc. You must use ZIP files only. Do not use RAR. You may blog all you like about the contest.

Voting will be done by theStudio Design & Admin teams only.
Round 2 kit will be due September 12, 2011 by 23:59 EST.
Round 2 results will be posted September 15, 2011 by 6:00 am EST.

I have worked hard to make these rules as clear and easy to understand as possible. However, if you have any questions please post here or PM me. I will take all questions and create a separate round 2 FAQ for everyone to benefit (I will leave your name off).

Yes, you are. Quite a few people were unable to join in the NDC because of school starting, weather, time constraints, etc. So I am opening this up to anyone.

I wasn't able to pull anything together in 8 hours after finding out about the first contest, maybe time will allow me to take part in the second chance. We'll see. So far this week has thrown a few curve balls!

I wasn't able to use the template, I have photoshop elements 6.0 and on the template there are folders that I cannot get into... ?? Don't know what to do about that. Can anyone help??

PSE doesn't support groups ... try downloading the TIF file which also supports layers and it should work for you.... I have PSE 5 and I was able to successfully use the TIF file.

One question...
Are we allowed to modify the preview in any way, meaning the neutral part of it to add our own flair to it or are we supposed to keep it as is and just add our title, etc?

No, do not modifiy the preview. I want to see your kit & title shine against the neutral background.

I was looking for the gallery for this. There doesn't seem to be a link for it. Not sure how to find it. I'm loving all the beautiful designs. Everyone has worked so hard. Thank you for having this contest. This is the one I look forward to every year.

Yes, I seem to be having a similar problem. I think the gallery is not actually linked like it should be. Maybe this will be fixed up soon. :-)
