so many things like names and images in a newspaper are unusable simply because the person or thing in the writing or image is copyrighted. for example advertising, you couldn't use a page with advertising on it in case that logo or name in the ad is copyrighted. You just have to be careful is all I am saying. I choose to play it safe and not use anything new when it comes to stuff like newspapers and books. If it's an old paper you're pretty safe but today's paper I wouldn't use.

ahhh, now that makes sense! of course, I would probably go for just the small print type to make an overlay, but I understand now what you mean about logos and names and all of that!! Thanks for explaining Tracy! My brain really does not like to understand copyright policy!! LOL! I feel like I ask the same questions over and over and it still doesn't sink in! Must be why I tend to just go without!

Probably checking the quality of any CU pieces you may want to use for your kits... it really does help to make sure you are starting with good quality pieces to build upon instead of realizing after you put all that hard work into it, that it's blurry at 100% and you can't use it... a major thing to check, especially with CU freebies, is to check the resolution, there are tons of CU freebies out there made at 72dpi and are either difficult to use or unusable altogether...

I thought CU wasn't allowed this round??? I'm just following this designer challenge, as I love to see how people are stretched to create. [and I've DL some cool stuff this round especially]. thank you.
I've had plenty of experience QC'ing CU "stuff" and some was not what I expected.
It also it amazes me how some CU stuff gets a bit of a tweak and all of a sudden it appears as a new 'originaly' thingy...

That's right Kim, I mean check your cu stash before the next round, check it for strays, missing pixels, jaggies, resolution issues, blurriness.

yes, quality check...does any of you use the quality check action?
I do sometimes with my overlays and extractions but I am never sure if they are OK, so I end up flattening the overlays into papers and putting aside my extracted elements to use for layering, brushes, etc. I am always so scared about jagged, and stray pixels mostly, those are my own demons. And I never, ever use CU freebies, only buy resources from CU designers I really trust, even though there were times I had to convert the item to 300dpi because it was not only at 72 but 96 or whatever and sometimes the real shadows they ad to the elements are not good and that's another issue, shadows must be perfect if you ad them , I think is better not to put shadows just in case, but that's just my point of view...and about teen agers, I have a grown man of 24 that was much tidier when he was 15 than now, he drives me crazy..but, his room, his place, his own income, I don't cross that line.

Back to the newspaper bit, I know I know it's been done a too much but the newspaper section I used was some old classifieds for house sales/rentals and it was from a newspaper in the early 60's so chances are most of the houses have probably been bulldozed and I know for sure that the paper isn't even in existance lol

The hard part re copyright is also the fact that different countries have different rules regarding it. Australian copyright is slightly different than other countries.

Loving those last few kits that have appeared since last night...good luck to everyone and now the hard part again....I hate the waiting

I agree with what Rachel said at the beginning - when you get the kit done early - the waiting is just longer!!! It's like - you know the waiting doesn't really begin until Monday - so it's like 2 waiting games......
