When we were first married and then children came, we were cash strapped like most young people. I learned to make Christmas ornaments out of most anything from blown painted eggs, to deodorant caps (the snail) or shaving creme tops (the drum). While we now have many elegant ornaments from travels all over the world and 40 years of dated Hallmark ornaments, I always make sure at least one egg, a snail and a drum make it onto the tree. It reminds me of how lucky we are now and how resourceful we were then.
