The journaling is a poem I wrote that was read for our wedding this past July. The oak is the groom (my husband) symbolized by the large tree. The willow is the bride (me) symbolized by the girl with branches. I wanted the poem 'fit' to the tree, but that was too complicated for me! Lol. The poem (copyright JLW) reads:
And so it came to pass one day that a willow met an oak.
He stood alone in an open field, proud, noble, and baroque.
His branches stood out far and wide,
And he seemed loving, kind and wise.
His trunk was filled with memories, etchings of days gone by;
Tales of love and adventure,
stories held nigh.
Birds had nested in his branches,
Friends found comfort in his shade,
And the ground on which he stood had been a gathering place,
Many a day and day.
But the willow was keen and
And she sensed something was amiss.
This grand oak was in need, she could feel his loneliness.
The willow had left her own ground,
In search of something new,
You see, this willow was lonely too.
And so she stopped and asked the oak
If there was room to share his ground, and he agreed.
She set her roots and began to grow,
Side-by-side, tree and tree.
Summer quickly turned to fall, then winter cast it’s gloom.
Together, they looked ahead
Waiting for spring to bloom.
Soon their roots were so entwined,
One tree they had become.
Grow old with me, the oak then said,
The best is yet to be.
