If I can put one touch of rosy sunset into the life of any man or woman,
I shall feel that I have worked with God.
On the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving, Ryland and I drove the short distance from the beach house to the Breezeway Restaurant which sits on the sound side of the island. It’s a great place to take photos of the sunset. We hoped to snag a table near a window, but we were disappointed to find out that the restaurant was closed for the season. We were standing watching as the sun started to set and noticed a man stringing lights on his boat at the dock. We struck up a conversation, and he invited me out on the pier to take photos. During our conversation, he mentioned that he was stringing the lights on his boat because there was going to be a small Christmas flotilla on Friday night. We were so excited to hear this, and we made a plan to be back in the exact same spot to photograph the sunset and to watch the flotilla pass by. This photo was taken on Friday night. The sunset itself was very pretty. About ten minutes after the sun disappeared behind the horizon, I turned around and to see a beautiful scene. Beautiful pink clouds painted across the sky and reflected in the water. It was breathtaking! Ryland and I stood and just stared. We felt so blessed to be at that place, at that time and to be witness to such loveliness. Once the sun finally said goodbye and the night sky took over, the flotilla began. It was the cutest thing I’ve seen in a long time. The boats even did a little synchronized twirling in the water. It really put Ry and I in the Christmas spirit. The people were so sweet, and they worked so hard to decorate their boats. It was a great way to start the Christmas holiday season. Now that we are home, we love to look at the photos. They take us back to the awe we felt about the beauty surrounding us, and the sense of peace and contentment that filled our hearts.
