My family didn’t celebrate birthdays with a party that included people that weren’t family. We usually gathered at my Grandparents house for cake and ice cream with immediate family and occasionally other family. Grandma always baked a cake of the birthday person’s choice, except for my Dad, who always wanted a cherry pie. I always wanted “potato cake with rubber frosting.” Now days I don’t know what it was. Unfortunately I didn’t get the recipe before my Grandma passed away and my Mother didn’t know what it was either. My most special and favorite birthday was the year I turned 6. Mother or Grandma made all my clothes and Grandma was making me a Birthday Dress. I can remember being so excited about that dress! I called it my Butterfly Dress. I don’t know why, it doesn’t have butterflies on it anywhere. Looking at the picture taken around the time of my birthday the only thing I can think of is that the ruffles over my shoulders reminded me of butterfly wings. This picture was taken with my brother Jimmie in May of 1946.

This is a great LO. I love the journaling - what great memories to have and to document for the next generations. The outfits on you and your brother are very special too; I love the hat and suspenders on your brother and it's cool how your hairbow matches your brother's shirt. LOL, those were the days when such things were important. Thanks for sharing this!
