True Love Quickpage from the True Love Mega Kit by MAH Designs and SKrapper Digitals

I also used paper-03 from Flower Scraps’s Eileen kit as a background behind my granddaughter. I couldn’t find the kit in the shop to link to.

Description:

My son, daughter-in-law and I have dslr cameras, but many of the pictures get taken with our iPhones. This picture was taken with an older phone, but I loved the smile and bright eyes, so I chose it to work on.

I always start by checking to see if Auto Curves or Auto Levels will take care of my problems. That didn’t work with this photo so I used my tried and true method: I located my white and dark points using the Histogram. Then I brought up a curves layer and used the white and black eyedroppers on these points. This corrected the color in the photo.

I added the presets “Darker” and “Increase Contrast 1” in Levels. I created a new independent layer by holding down the option/alt key and selecting Merge Layers in the Layer palette.

I moved this layer to the True Love qp. I also added paper-03 from the Eileen kit behind the picture. Then I used a a layer mask around Tate to remove the background and let the new paper show through. I used a black brush with 50% opacity and 50% fill to go around the edges of the hair. This let the loose strands show through and only a little of the background. It was the first time I had tried this and was happy with the result.

I picked this qp because of the contrast it provided to my photo.

You did a great job on the photo. Such a dramatic difference. Love it.
