In 1987 I got my first red car, my second car ever; an 87 bright red Camaro! I was 20 years old and gushing about the car, my baby! In 1994 that car I loved so much had gotten to the point of nickel and diming me to the tune of a monthly car payment to fix it. I figured if I was going to spend a car payment I might as well have a new car!
No question I wanted it to be another Camaro. This time I wanted the new color for the new models; Hunter Green. There were no hunter green Camaros on the lot or any Metro Detroit area lots. I could order the car and wait or select a color on the lot. I didnít want to wait another month and another car payment in maintenance on the car I was driving. So I decided on the red car I test drove. Pop went with me to iron out the price and to cosign if needed, but it wasnít needed! The loan was all mine and I paid for every penny of the car!
When I told my friends that Iíd wanted the green paint, they called it fate that I couldnít get it because I was a red car woman. A woman driving a red car is a confident and determined woman. They said it suits me.
17 years and an MS diagnosis later, I canít drive a sports car anymore. The next car will be a minivan that can carry a wheelchair. I donít know which model it will be but I can tell you the color; because Iím still a red car kind of gal!
