Improved pictures from "the Misfits"(1961) and another one of Marilyn when she was a baby:Clark Gable never had an affair with Marilyn Monroe because she smelled too much,according to a new biography.The pair both starred in the 1961 film The Misfits, and were often rumored to have a begun a steamy affair during the shoot.However,the author of new book Clark Gable:Tormented star,David Bret,says,"(Gable was) not in the least amorously interested in Marilyn.In as much as he had a fetish for cleanliness, she could not have been less fastidious regarding her personal hygiene.She suffered from what today would be described as a form of irritable bowel syndrome." Montgomery Clift,a self-destructive soul who had disfigured his handsome looks by accidentally driving his car into a telephone pole in 1957,was as dependent on alcohol and drugs as Marilyn,prompting the sensitive actress to exclaim,"He's the only person I know who's in worse shape than I am."His reputation was such that insurance companies would no longer underwrite Clift in a film.
