One of the most fun road trips Ted and I have made was to Coloma, CA where we found we had arrived on the weekend of the Living History Re-enactment. We visited the tent city where we found a blacksmith, cobbler, baker and many gold prospectors. From there we walked along Marshall's Path to the site at Sutters Mill where gold was first discovered. There was a Natural History Center, a Pioneer Cabin and many restored old buildings to visit throughout the town. Our last stop was the old cemetery. I think that was my favorite place. We walked from one end to the other, taking lots of pictures of the old headstones, fences and vines that have taken over much of the old resting place. It was a fabulous day. And to think we just stumbled on it without knowing that we picked the perfect weekend. October 2011
