I had this fantastic new kit and woke up inspired to write verse! Ah, sweet memories of childhood…

My Poem:
Remember when, my brother dear,
We’d run and play and laugh and cheer?
Our summer world, a pass for the pool,
Crafts and Vacation Bible School
Baseball cards and hearing the word,
Sneaking out with our friends to visit The Bird!
Autumn came and after your birthday,
Lunch with no parents, Mom said “okay,”
Burgers with friends, a liberating feeling
Wonder how they got that pickle off the ceiling?
Winter’s chill meant hockey time
I cheered at your games, you cheered at mine
Christmas morn, you offered help
‘Cause I took too long, my slow-poke self
Springtime came and the parks opened up,
The swings, the slide and other cool stuff
The snow went away and we got back out
There were always some things you forgot about,
The older sibling establishes roles
With challenges, dares, she likes to propose
The backyard tree and monkey bars
“Let’s see you climb them, it’s not so hard.”
Years later Mom was shocked to hear
Why her little boy defied his fear
Her daughter telling her “Davey’s stuck,”
Was ‘cause I always called you “baby butt!”
(My husband says, “Girls are mean.”)
