Journaling: When people ask me who has most influenced my walk with Christ, the first person who comes to mind is Mrs. Nilsa. I remember going to church with Tammy and her family in high school and Mrs. Nilsa making tuna fish sandwiches afterwards, but more than that were the conversations we had until the late hours of the morning and seeing how she lived her life. Even now I can talk to her for hours. Sure, our relationship has had ups and downs, but Iím so grateful that God restored it because I truly cannot imagine my life without her. She has been like a second mom to me and has been my spiritual mentor.
She is an incredible prayer warrior, a fighter and a survivor. Though she is battling cancer, her focus remains on Christ, and she truly believes in Godís goodness and sovereignty, despite her battle and other things she has walked through in her life. How I long for that kind of faith and trust!
When Mrs. Nilsa was first going into surgery at the initial stages of her bout with cancer, I had a dream that we were all in the waiting room as she was being wheeled into surgery. We were all very anxious, but Mrs. Nilsa had a serene look as she pointed up. I knew immediately that she was telling us that no matter what happened, she was going to give God the glory.
And she has. In each step of her journey, she has pointed to Christ, showing others the way to Him, showing others -showing ME- how to trust Him a little more, even when life doesnít work out the way we want it to.
How grateful I am not just for Mrs. Nilsaís walk and all that she has taught me but for our friendship. I treasure it more than words can say and I am so grateful that God brought our lives together and has connected us like family.
