Sedona, Arizona, famous for its red rock formations, is a popular destination for sightseers, hikers, campers, spa-seekers, and new age mystics, and is home to many artists in various media. The monolithic rock structures were formed by deposits of rock and earth from nearby mountains into the long-ago delta area, then shaped by erosion from streams of water, leaving such monuments as Cathedral Rock, Coffee Pot, Courthouse Rock, and Bell Rock, all named for the shapes they resemble. A high iron content gives the limestone rocks their famous red color, and they add a wonderful glow to the landscape during many Arizona sunsets, legendary in their own right. Water from Oak Creek enables a rich and varied vegetation, and the weather is usually temperate. We love visiting the area, as there is lots to do and see, and the views are always breathtaking.
