You were my first baby. The first grandchild. The first great grandchild. No baby was more eagerly awaited. As excited as we were to meet you, none of us was prepared when you decided to come 5 weeks early. Even early, you were a respectable 7 pounds, 3 ounces.
When I went home you had to stay in the hospital, because you had jaundice. It was while you were there that you had your first apnea attack. They said if it had happened at home, we might have lost you.
You stayed in the hospital for two and a half weeks. They diagnosed you with reflux. When you came home, you had an apnea monitor
that would alarm if you stopped breathing. You can see the belt from the monitor under all your clothes until you were 6 months old.
