When I think about it, my journey into scrapbooking started with my Gran. I wanted to make a special present for her birthday. Having restored photos of her and my grand-father when they were young, I knew she would be overjoyed to have them displayed. There are almost no photos at all of them when they were young, even when they were married. So I did a layout for her. I liked that I could include information about the photos so that when anyone looked at them, they'd know what was going on. Gran was the family memory keeper. The one who knew all the stories, and who was in what photo, and what was going on in the photos.
When we lost her, it shook everything. I never got to share my scrapbooking discovery with her, because she was too ill by then, and I had only just started exploring it. I know she would have loved learning about the entire process. I guess scrapbooking was my way of keeping her with me, and getting through the loss.
She's always one of my favourite subjects. And the journalling let's me record the things about her that I remember. The littlest kids didn't get to spend much time with her, so this is a way to help them know her. For me, it's what makes scrapbooking so special. I'm not talkative like my Gran ,nor do I have her amazing memory. I think the kids will all like it when they're older. I know she would. And that comforts me. And inspires me to continue with it.
