Treasured Memories

Kit Autumn Reflections by Skrapper Digitals

Font: Palette D and Bank SCD reg.

Pictures of my grandmother and grandfather and their 4 children and the family dog. They always had a dog or two in the family. The oldest son was my father. The youngest was my aunt and a girl. The whole family are all in heaven now. Here is my story.

" I happen to be scanning in some old pictures my grandmother had put in her album and was reflecting back on me growing up and how she influenced me with her love of life, her laughter and joy of just being alive. She was always so happy all the times I was with her no matter what was happening around her, good or bad. She had a privilege life with servants to only lose all of it in the 1920’s with the crash, but not her positive outlook on life. She left Vermont in their only car with my grandfather and children and the dog along with her aunt who took over the cooking, cleaning and raising the children for her. I always thought my Aunt Mattie was a servant until I did the family genealogy and found out she was my grandmother’s aunt and the one lady I called aunt was just her best friend she went to finishing school with.

We called my grandmother granny goose and not grandmother, granny, nana or any popular names for a grandmother. Giving her that nick name was probably not good, but she just loved us calling her that. She was so fun. I found some pictures of her showing the joy on her face when she had her children and the dog with her going somewhere like the beach or visiting relatives. One of the photos shows her driving the car with all the kids and the family dog with my dad as the oldest in the back seat in back of her. Looking at the picture reflecting on all their faces of joy knowing they are gone forever and in my pa

WOW! what an amazing story! It's an encouraging story to us all that even though she lost all of her material possessions she was still able to maintain a beautiful attitude and inner joy. Excellent Heritage page, strikingly beautiful as well! I love the black and white extracted photo! gorgeous work!

Your Granny Goose (such a cute nick name) was a beautiful woman. It is so hard to imagine that time period, with the devastating losses (even in this economy) and yet she continued to have a smile on her face. Thank you for sharing the fun times you had together, and what a delight it was to spend time with her. It is memories such as these that are important. My Dad always says, people are more important than things. She took that to heart!

Your layout has a such a beautiful legacy feel to it. The extraction work is amazing, and how you filled the charm with a photo is well "charming..." Your layout is very creative and is truly a gift worth treasuring.
Here's to more happy scrapping, and

I, too, like the heritage feel of your page. It's the perfect style for your reflection. I can't help but think that your grandmother's optimism must keep you going during hard times. That's a legacy of joy. Good luck in the contest.

Wow, how fascinating and what a surprise to have discovered the truth about your great aunt; family histories can be so interesting, and at times, what is learned can be very surprising. Your layout is a lovely montage of photos and 'old' things! And how clever to used the metal element as a photo frame! Thanks for sharing your story.

Absolutely love the heritage feeling. How awesome that she "lost" so much, yet kept perspective on what is truly valuable...family and a sense of humor. Love it!
